Title: changed all 3 engine mounts still get engine wobble!
Post by: dragongreengolfgti on 19 February 2013, 19:54
Evening all

My problem is I have just finished replacing all 3 engine mounts with parts from euro car parts front mount I done about 5 months ago, gearbox mount last month and weekend gone the other rear mount. Two weeks ago I also done new top mounts and bearings and last year I fitted new wheel bearings, ball joints and drop links

Now I thought that would be the end of my kangaroo action albeit it's now a lot better and nearly gone I can still feel a little judder when slowing down or at first acceleration!  I think my gearbox is on it's way out as getting a grind into second (after changing oil) and/or clutch is going can this affect things? Also drive shafts is this possible? Anything else I need to look at maybe?

It's probably the weight shifting from/to the suspension.

Front subframe bushes maybe? The 4 bushes that hold the front subframe to the chassis legs, as thats attatched to the front engine mount

Polys may even be the cause of the extra transferred movement due to less dampening ability than the oem rubber mounts .

You could also have play in your cv joints, i had this recently, but loose wheel bolts can give the same effect. To remove the movement significantly fit pucks as a front mount to replace the swiss cheese one.

One of the cv joints was replaced last years mot time but could maybe the other i do get a weird sensation when givig it some beans around a small corner like something under the front is moving. I replaced all the front hubs and new wheel bearings also perhaps its the coilovers giving up?
