  I know its not the best picture but im just hoping this is nothing serious as this is the only prob with my MKII GTI.

Whats the best way to resolve this? And does it look like a windscreen out jobbie or is it best to sand it all down first to see how bad it is?

i can't tell but i'd think that therust will go under the rubber so to make sure you get it sorted it'll have to be a windscreen out job. you may as well do it right! or try to peel back as much of the rubber as you can to see how bad it is..............

yeah dude do it quickly can't find pics at mo but there was a bubble like that on my boot and it had been left for a while me thinks :( hang on.....

So yeah a speedy windscreen out job and fix it before it starts slinging it down constantly again! otherwise this  is what you have to look forward to rust spreads on these old busses! :D good luck and i hope it's only a little bubble dude. ;)

GOD DAM at those last pics :O How much did it cost you to get that sorted mate? And what type of costs to get it sorted properly? I cant afford to be anally raped :/

 Or if the Windscreen comes out alright i could do it myself this weekend? Its not leaking any water or anything. I pressed hard on it to se if i could hear cracking etc but it was fine. Will try peeling the rubber back if it stops raining tonight.

if it's as bad as monza's I'd be thinking about a new tailgate!

Go see a bodyshop and get a quote to repair that logie. soon it'll start letting in water :(

Think it's the scuttle panel dude?????

It cost me £50 for a new bootlid and about 4 hours messing about with spraypaint and window rubbers (wrong lip :ahem:) lol the windscreen isn't too bad to take out use some clothesline when putting it back in to pull the rubber over the lip much easier 2 person job though! getting it out is fun mind you!
Get it sorted yourself shud b ok if it's not too far gone good luck dude.

I got a tailgate off ebay for 99p :D
it's 99% rust free with a tiny winy little bit round the number plate holes.
it'll be £200 to get it modded and sprayed how I want it.

Looks good. Dont suppose you could do a quick guide on how to remove the windscreen and how to refit it? I'd be very greatfull!

Not really the person for that my techniques have been described as "bodge master-tastic"

My way consisted of pushing it out with my feet from inside and been caught on a blanket on the bonnet by a willing friend! can go disasterously wrong but I was changing mine so wasn't too bothered, putting it back in you need to put the rubber around the window.Then run string, wire etc inside the rubber seal that goes over the metal lip, put in place and whilst your helpful buddy pushes on the screen you pull the string out lip goes over the rubber and job done unless you put the string in the wrong gap :ahem:!  someone may be able to help on here with a less neanderthal way but that's how I did it and it worked fine. It's not as hard as it seems really :D

Hmmm i dont understand the string method :/. Me and my m8 dont the windscreen on a 309 GTI. But that was a sh!tter. This Golf isnt and i dont want to bodge it :|

I'm not a fan of tailgates like that sorry monza.

I want the peice that goes along the top of the place smoothed over. keep the plate there, but loose that peice and the lock.

Logie, removing the wiper is piss easy.
remove the plastic cover. on the inside. remove the cap on top the arm. remove the arm (nut on top). inside the tailgate remove the 3 bolts that hold the motor in. unplug the motor. should all drop out then. you'll need a grommet to fill the hole!

best to get the pro's to do the windscreen. it has to be sealed in.
the other 5 you can do yourself (or get your dad to do for you like me) :D
