Morning all,
Looking at a 2l 20v passat (~2003) as an upgrade (from mk3 Golf) due to a new arrival planned in June. Any common problems, or other helpful experiences relating to the car or engine I should know about?
Ta,
James

They didn't make a 20v 2.0 in 2003.
If its the 20v 1.8 na then I personally I wouldn't bother as its underpowered, but if its the 1.8T 20v then make sure the timing belt etc has been done.

yeah not bothering with the 1.8, but wiki and autotrader seem to disagree re the engine options for the B5.5 models - its the ALT engine, 2l NA 20v:

get a tdi 130 enough power and in 10 years 300000 miles never let him down once until he wrote it off ...
-
If its a 1.8T then on the B5.5 they have the bigger turbo so up to 220bhp with a remap!

tempting, but on a 100,000 miles how much life does the original turbo have left?

my old APU has over 200 k on it and gets ramped daily

as long as the oil is changed as needed (and quality oil is used) they last for ever
it's normally the oil pick up/ pump that causes the issues on the Ssat (my old one was over 170k and the new owner will say how well the car pulls when the turbo comes in)
