Title: Wheels arch and side skirt trim help
Post by: stainesy on 17 February 2013, 12:43
Ok I have a mk2 early type19 jetta.
It's a 1985 small bumper.
Wile we had the snow I put some winter wheels on her but due to them being steel with with bigger profile tyres one of them caut and pulled on the wheel arch splitting the ain't along the edge of he wheels arch on one side so Have decided to put gti arches on to cover this.
But I also want the ones that have the side skirt trim bit the goes between the arches.
There is loads of variations for big bumper and small bumper.
From what I can gather on eBay small bumper models didn't have side skirt and big bumpers models did.
I have a small bumper car but I want the arches with side skirts.
What do I buy?

This is the car in question.

90 spec GTI - big bumper arches, side skirts and all the relevant fixing brackets and bracket holders.

Have your arches been rolled??

Yes I have rolled my arches so I'd do what I did on my mk3 gti after I rolled the arches and trimmed plastic arches and bonded them on.

So I will need big bumper arches. Side skirts. And will I need door mouldings aswell or will mine be the same size? Also will the arches have bits that normally attach to big bumpers?

As such they dont attach to the big bumpers they sit behind them. You may have to trim them a bit but seen as you are doing that for the rolled arches should be an easy one for you...

the side trims are different there are 3 sizes 70mm, 50 or 45mm (Which I think you have fitted) & 30mm (going from memory... here so dont take the sizes as gospel).

if you were doing it properly you would use the smallest as that is what is fitted to the 90 spec GTI's,

I guess with some care you could use your existing trim and match it in to the arches..
