Title: Oil in spark plug chamber
Post by: dom on 17 February 2013, 12:29
Just want someone to confirm this for me, found oil in my spark plug chambers and on coil packs earlier:

I'm assuming it's the valve gasket that is perished? If so I'll get a new gasket and rocker cover gasket tomorrow from ECP.

Has anyone used loctite gasket sealant before? I'm assuming that I'll need to use some with the new gasket?

Yep id say gasket although might be worthwhile checking the rocker bolts are all tighted down just in case of any loose bolts.

I always like to use sealant on any gaskets i replace just to make sure it seals first time!

On closer inspection the gasket is visibly damaged (you can just about make it out at 7 o'clock in the picture I posed above).

Will the gasket sealant I posted above be ok to use with the replacement gaskets?

I would not use sealant, clean the faces and then use a new gasket plus torque bolts to spec.

Yeah don't use sealant Dom could dry and then drop inside the engine then blocking up the pick up pipe

It's really easy mate, the gaskets locate on the head, just don't tighten the bolts down too much

Cheers, I got it changed over earlier in the week. The biggest pain was the hardlines getting in the way of removing the rocker cover
