Ok so I started on here with a mk4 gti sold that and got a polo gti now thats going and im going to the good old mk2 gti here is my choice im looking for a nice clean mk2 and ive found two first is a standard 8v 3 door on g60 steels looks mint no rust has done over 216k tho mot till dec price 1300 its black. Second is a mk2 gti was an 8v been converted to a abf has full colour concept interior and door cards its a 5 door (really wanted a 3 door) years mot and has ele windows and central locking and a jetta front end with golf single head light front as a spare its also 1300. Im swaying to the abf but what are every ones thoughts. Cant upload pics as photobucket is being gay

ABF moredoor. All the cool kids have 5 doors!
-
ABF mate, IF it's been declared, serviced and looks generally good. If it's not been looked after it'll be like mine!
Have you driven both?
-
No not driven neither yet both assured me they are good trying to upload pics but photobucker is gay. Is there an app bar all the flickr snapbucket and the others you have to join where it just gives you the img code

Ok this is the 3 door 8v (http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j412/dam088888/IMG-20130215-WA0000_zpsf9d65472.jpg) and this is the abf(http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j412/dam088888/IMG-20130215-WA0008_zps9ee27de8.jpg) (http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j412/dam088888/photostrip-2013-02-15-1_zpsa2607aa7.jpg) (http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j412/dam088888/IMG-20130215-WA0009_zps67dc3857.jpg)

Is it the full abf conversion or just a bottom end? when I did mine I did the complete lot so its running the proper management system.
-
Its complete conversion so does that mean it should be mk3 ecu as well. He says its running 160bhp at the wheels
-
3 door all day long, then ABF that yourself if you so desire..
-
Spoke to the guy its running mk3 engine loom and ecu
-
5dr all day long. Good colour, good spec and an ABF. What more do you need?
-
Two doors 16ver lowered! Sorted, but the one with 200K on it would take a 16v transplant all day long and the body is mint!
TBF your choices should be based on body these days as the golf MK2 is not getting younger so more time on the road as an engine transplant can be done in a day, whilst body work or repairs can take a very long time if you don't have the cash or the right man for that matter!
-
What about the 8v on DubCulture? £1250 but 5dr, looks to be completely original though...

Ok went and saw the 3 door today looks pretty mint no real rust at all. When first started it sounded abit tappy is this normal.its git the 2nd gear crunch as mist do but cimes with a recon box to fit. Just abit worried about 216k miles. Its just had belts done so should I need to worry about anything eles if body is ok
-
You buy old cars on the condition of the bodywork. I only touch mega clean shells myself.
All those issues are normal. Tapping on start up. 2nd gear crunch is not really a big problem and not really worth fixing imho. Leave it as it is.
-
Deposit put down on black 3 door pick up tomorrow
-
3 doors everytime
sorry moredoor owners
-
3 door will hold its money in the longer time...
But Like Mr Blue has said YOU MUST buy on body condition... 200K engine is nothing to worry about - easy to fix or replace...
Bodywork is another issue... And a lot more expensive to fix...
