Title: GTI MK1 Girling
Post by: chezz on 15 February 2013, 22:53
Hi, I am predominantly an Audi -5 pot fan and I would like to establish which brakes are fitted to the MK1 Golf (front only) and if the G60 caliper is a straightforward swap for this caliper. My belief is that the ur quattro shares the same front caliper and I wish to establish how much of a problem it would be to fit the G60's
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I have Corrado G60 Calipers (Girling 54's) They fit on to a MK1 golf quite easily using the carriers from the following.

84-92 Scirocco
85-88 Passat/Santana
83-87 Audi 80/90/Avant/quattro
81-88 Audi Coupe/quattro

You can also use Vauxhall bits for for the job, too.  Although I've never looked into the detail of what as I never considered it.  TSR make adapters but I recommend you go for proper carriers.

As far as what the standard Calipers are on a Mk1, I couldn't tell you, been so long since I've seen any.

You might want to use the calipers and carriers of the MK2 Scirocco 16v. This car also belongs to the A1 platform and it's caliper carriers suit the original wheel-bearing-housing the 256mm brake disks and Girling 54 calipers. The 16v has completely uprated brakes, due to it's to 200 and 207 KM/h top-speed.

Message me if you want these rare parts.
