Title: A knock, and Creak and a draft.....Mk3 Gti
Post by: MereKat on 15 February 2013, 20:23
Hi all,

Recently, my old girl has developed a few problems...

First...When turning left, if the heater is on, there's a cold draught...going straight or turning right results in the glorious warmth the heater provides...

Then: There is a 'vibration' when pulling away, upto around 25mph, coming form the O/S/F wheel. People say top mounts are shot, but it only happens when at 25 or under. It sounds like there is something hollow between the wheel and the car? I am thinking either bearing or CV, but it's gone form nothing to very noticable in about a week...I am running 5mm spacers on the front so the wheels clear the calipers, but all appears to be straight and the bolts are nice and tight...

Then! I pulled away from work yesterday and there was a creak from the N/S/F. Didn't feel anything, and doesn't sound like it's bearing or mount related, sounded more like a creaking floorboard than anything?

So, 2nd problem could be a fairly easy fix possibly, but i'm hoping that 1 and 3 aren't related and my car is actually splitting somewhere!

Hoping i'll have a sheltered area to look over it tomorrow, but wouldn't mind some pointers as to where i'll need to be looking :D

Your car is haunted man ,ring your local vicar to give it a blessing and all will be well

On a serious note I too have a draft when turning ,i have no idea why.

I get that draft too when going left.....

It's the unused cold air in the passenger side hitting you
