There's plenty of people on here who can answer your question better than I can, but I would think you'd need to reprogramme some settings using Vagcom to enable the LED DRL's to work properly and without generating a bulb blown error [different current usage to GTI DRL's] The best way is to get a genuine R front bumper by buying an R; you know it makes sense.

Rick is right. The .:R has LED's as opposed to bulbs in the standard halogen lamps, so could cause bulb out errors. The .:R's DRLs also dim when you turn the parking lights / headlights on, so it would need coding to get them to work properly.
You could always turn your original DRL's off and just wire you new lights directly to an ignition live. That would be a bit (make that a lot) half arsed, but then again, an .:R lookalike is not to everyone's taste either.

hi mate , i turned my drl s off . took my new drl feed throu the bulk ( a hole behind the power steering pump has a rubber round it , it just about gets throu that .) that will come out behind the tray under your glove box . then feed it across behind the dash to your fuse box . then got a piggyback fuse connector off ebay and doubled the cig lighter fuse up asthis comes live when the ignitions on . works a treat and done in under half an hour , ill get you a link to the ebay part you need.

So your DRL's stay on at full brightness all the time, even when your headlights are on?

Thanks to you all for your valuable comments. I have the knowledge and equipment to sort the programming side, its just where to wire up.
I have always made my cars to look slightly different than stock. This car is for my wife 1.6 bluemotion, full R20 kit 18" wheels, will post pics when done. result is a eye catching car and very economical to run, Best of both worlds. John
