hi there my step dad has just brought a 2.0tdi. it doesnt look like its been serviced in a while.
couple of questions. what mm socket is it for the oil filter housing.
what is the torque setting for the oil filter housing?
whats the torque setting for the sump nut?
does the fuel filter need to be replaced they seem rather expensive if so where is this located.
is the pollen filter easy to get to?
most people say castrol edge 5w30 is the correct oil is this correct?. is there any similar slightly cheaper or not?

Cant answer 1 & 2
3 is not very tight; something like 20lbs ft :undecided:
Yes - its only about £20; its located on the drivers side; its the canister with 4 pipes on the top and some allen key screws
Its a pain as its located behind the glovebox
Dont skimp on oil; get the Quantum stuff from VW. Think its 5w 40 and is cheaper than Castrol anyway

Buy a Haynes
Its a cartridge type filter. Get your bits from VW. That way you know they will be right

does anyone know the socket size for the oil filter housing. i live over 100 miles from my mum so kinda need to take the right tools :)

just to let anyone know the oil filter socket is 32mm
i serviced my mums car. it all went without a hitch. the fuel filter easily refilled afterwards by turning the ignition on and off a few times
the haynes manual. specifys 5w40 but i put in 5w30 castrol edge
the haynes manual says 4.5 litre with an oil filter change. i managed to fill about 3.8 litres
