My wife purchased a new edition 35 in December and from day 1 when on full steering lock in either direction you get an awful crunching noise from what sounds like the suspension. The dealer said this is a known problem with all gti cars and does not invalidate the warranty. I have since spoken to VW Uk who have repeated the same.
Does anyone else experience this and are VW telling the truth? Is there anything that can be done?

I get a kinda grinding noise when on full lock, but a few on here said that had it too and hadn't really had any trouble. My car is now 14 months old and has 13k on the clock with no trouble. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Mine too.

Mine does it but only when wet, I think it could be something to do with felt lining in the arch with the big wheels?

That rings a bell. I've either read on here or on another forum where a poster had the same problem with the steering lock making a noise when it was wet. So he took it to a supermarket car park in the dry weather, no noise from the steering. He then got his bottle of water out and sprayed under the car wheel arches and hey presto, the noise appeared!!
