Title: steering issues
Post by: wolfburger on 11 February 2013, 09:41
hi ive lowered my mk2 gti , on fk varient 2`s. now my steering is weird, the first 10 minutes either side from 12 o`clock is ok, but anything more it acts like theres air in the system(without the noise) hard and soft.so i was wondering if you guys upgrade your steering racks or your power steering pumps when you lower your car.Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Might be worth checking your top mounts and track rod ends for peace of mind.

cheers i`ll check the track rods for any play,i know my top mounts are ok,they were new when i brought the coilovers. What about the steering pump, the feed back through the steering wheel kinda indicates something to do with power steering :undecided:(hydraulics) thanks for reply.

no need to change the rack or pump when lowering.

so

they have been fitted wrong

or

you have other issues.

thanks everyone i`lll change the pump i think, the belt has a nice tension, i need to give the throttle a blip when cornering at low speed or when manoeurving (backwards) keep the engine speed up/pump pressure.i just got a quote £100 for a new pump! does that sound alright?
