Title: Can't open the boot
Post by: supramad77 on 10 February 2013, 18:19
Guys I have a gti mk4 and the boot is stuck shut. I can hear the lock when I press the remote but it's not unlocking. Tried the key but it was very difficult to get in to the hole. Used loads of wd 40 to no avail. Got the key in but won't turn. Bit out of ideas now. Any ideas to open the boot can't see any way of doing it from inside.
Help please.

one screw in each of the handles, then pull like mad to get the panel off. You can then gain access to the workings and see what needs prodding to get it to open. My guess is leaking washer motor all over the solenoid and microswitch

Don't give up on the key either.
Little hint ; it seizes up around the outside of the barrel, so with the boot open spray on and leave a pool of WD40 in the slight recess around the barrel, it'll get in there and work its magic.
I always struggle to get the key in ours, so I've made a point of getting busy with the WD40 once or twice a year and slowly teasing it back to rotating.  It does eventually turn, but don't get too heavy-handed and snap it off!

Thanks for the replys. I did undo those little screws but as it did not pull of easy I guessed there were fixings I could not see. Sounds like I need to get a big aggressive lol! Will have another bash as the lock as well. Was worried about the key snapping as I only have one.

it needs a LOT of force to pull the cover off
