Basically does anyone know where I can buy one? Or know anyone who trims and balances them?
-
Hotgolf
-
From clubgti best thing to do is pm him.
-
Very hard to get hold of these days. Have tried a few times with no luck. Imagine his inbox is over
flowing or something
-
Yup. Use Hotgolf. Can't recommend highly enough.
I got one done about a year ago and can say he did a truly awesome job. Well packaged fast turn around etc etc. he dd however tell me he was only doing it in his spare one now and I had to wait three weeks before he'd have time I do it...
Just a heads up.
-
Surely there's other people around? Or an aftermarket one you can buy somewhere?
-
Off the shelf ones are bloody expensive.
-
you looking for an abf one? i have a mate who does mine can ask a price etc

yes please mate
-
you looking for one to be sent to you or going to supply your own? what weight too? i know hes getting it down to about 4.6kg now but thats crazy light!
-
Im quite interested to hear what his prices and work are like in comparison to Hotgolf.
-
Another option is to try your local engineering / machining shop.

Does he have any experience in flywheels?
Or just a dude with a lathe?
Under 5 Kgs on a cast flywheel sounds light...and possibly dangerously light.
I wouldn't fancy going too far and having it let go...the gearbox casing and firewall won't offer much protection if it does.

Sound advice Glen, under 5kg is way too light and very risky.

I would just let Hotgolf do it, loads of us are rocking his stuff, he did my gearbox too, top guy
when he did mine, he asked the power of the car etc before he did any work. He then told me the correct weight to go for, too light on mine would be no good apparently (Turbo 350+ bhp)
He did say, on a non turbo car he would take it as light as he could whatever that means..
-
i'll get in touch with hotgolf at some point then, at least that way i know there be no surprises
-
Yeah I would
-
He is very good I hear
-
He's hot......golf.
Just get the Welshman on it.
-
Am getting mine done by Hotgolf

Anyone can spin it down on a lathe, but to do it properly you need to balance it afterwards....
As Ess said just a dude with a lathe?
Castings are much safer to machine down as the "grain" is not cut across or weakened like billet steel, but you need to know where to remove the metal to keep it safe.
A car with loads of power and torque does not really want to be that light as the weight and torque will help you pull a higher gear, an 8 or 16v golf will benefit and feel a bit quicker

Am getting mine done by Hotgolf
let me know what its like when all fitted
-
Yeah I will. I have heard really good feedback from others on here and clubgti. He knows his stuff
