I've recently purchased a "spares/repair" car from eBay, with engine faults. Turns out after an engine strip a small washer had found its way into a cyclinder, and bounced around a little bit wooops!
Anyway, the engine isnt the original in the car, so im trying to identify it. Looked in the usual places for engine codes but not had any luck. Here are the codes i can see:
038103021AN
036AN
80HBH
V1800
As i need to buy some parts to rebuild the engine, i want to be damn sure im getting the right bits.
Anyone help?

A few things might help here....
1. What model/year was the car you bought?
2. Petrol/diesel?
3. Any pictures of the engine?

I can't get pictures just yet, as its at my parents, however:
its a mk4 golf Y reg (although engine is a donor engine as previous one died)
Previous engine was the 90bhp engine, so possibly switched it for the same engine.
Its a diesel.

From googling the numbers i seem to be pushed towards an AXR engine.

No one else shed any light? :(
would there be any reason why the 3 letter code wouldn't be stamped on the engine like usual? :S
