i purchased the 3" exhaust off of ebay a while ago that everyone is ranting on about.
i have welded on a sports cat on it aswell.
the problem i am having with this is ive got two sensors on my car. the sensors themselves are around 90mm long and with the size of the 3" exhaust they wont fit in the channel. the front one is pointing sideways and there is only roughy a 20mm gap so its impossible to fit the first sensor in.
the second sensor is also giving me problems as it will be pointing down the way. im worried that it may rip out over a speedbump or in deep snow.
has anyone else experienced these problems as currently my vital daily runner is sitting in a shed with no exhaust at all
-
No issue's with the front one, fit perfect, The rear one was the problem, You can buy a spacer off ebay that relocates the sensor.
We actually had the sensor ripped out after it catching on a speed bump which caused damage to the ECU.
-
I managed to get the sensor pointing upwards with 15mm ish space for movement

Yeah I'm worried the back sensor will get ripped out. I want to fit it like you have with it pointing upwards but for some reason mine won't fit like that but it's mainly the front one that's screwing me over. Its hitting the side of the channel , would need to be 70mm shorter to have any hope. Looking at that photo you've have you removed all your heat shielding? Just wondering if this would help me but are they not pretty important lol
-
Think all the shielding is there as I've never removed any of it

Put a pic of the dp on as the lambda hole could be in the wrong place
-
i tried to take a few photos under the car but its pretty hard to get the right shot.
this is what it looks like off the car:

in order for the first sensor to fit it will have to be on the other side where there is more room.

As you can see the hole for the sensor is almost hard up against the wall of the tunnel it runs through making it impossible to fit. im wondering if it has been welded on the wrong side while making it?
hope these pictures can shed some light on the situation
-
Possibly that where the cat has been fitted it should have been welded with the cat moved round?
-
Nah the cat is after the sensors. The first hole is on the fixed piece from the turbo which is causing the problem. The second was marked and linedup exactly where the old one was on the decat
-
Mines the same as rios never had a prob with the lamba aslong as u have the pipe the rite way it should fit nice mate
-
theres something definaetly strange about it. ive had it in position and out of position so many times this weekend and there is only one way to fit the downpipe onto the turbo and that leaves the hole for the first lambada hard against the wall. there is so much more room for it on the passenger side of the exhaust but for some reason mine is on the drivers side.
it looks like im going to have to put a bolt in the old hole and drill and weld a new nut on the other side to make it fit. Also the centre pipe is about 2" too short aswell for it to slide on properly so im going to have to get that cut and extended aswell. Pain really cause i dont have a tig welder so it will be more cost onto what was at first a cheap exhaust :undecided:.
im starting to think ive either been handed a dud or my car is a slightly different model because so many people have fitted these exhausts with little to no problems and i get mine and the thing needs relatively major modification.
-
Well looks neat m8
-
How comes these pipes didn't come pre drilled for the senders i bought a 3" down pipe and D cat off eBay for £80 and it fitted straight onto my auq no problems at all senders was in same place as me original pipe
-
It has come pre drilled but where they are is wrong for my car. Mine is a aum but as the pictures show it doesn't fit to allow the sensors
-
Sounds like they have sent you the wrong down pipe mate
if i was you i would buy a 3" down pipe and D cat off ebay that will fix your problem
-
Reckon I'm just gonna modify this one to fit , just a pain in the arse really
I also had to drill and file out the holes that the turbo bolts go into because they weren't lining up properly either.
Fitting this bad boy started with excitement but now it will just be relief when it's done , I really hope there's no more problems once I get my front pipe modded and the rest goes on ok
-
As u said mate u mite just have a funny one mine fitted straight on with only one prob and that it knocks on the rear beam that will be sorted on mine the first lamba sits up and the second one sits face ing the drivers side mine and rios I think are arz engines that mite be why mate ?
-
Yeah mines aum and its also an import from Barcelona according to the log book , surely this wouldn't effect it tho.
Like I say it's just turning out to be a lot more work than first expected , it's a nightmare loosing the daily runner so all I can hope for is that it will fit together (eventually) and be worth it
-
Looks like I definitely got a dud frontpipe.
Further anaylisis today showed the front nut for the first sensor to not only be out of position but also an incorrect thread to match the sensor. Due to it not fitting I've decided to renew both sensors at a cost of £120 seeing as they are both rusted and one almost threaded. This is a safer option as new sensors should work better with the new exhaust hopefully throwing up no Ecu faults.
On a positive note a second check showed the rear lambabda sensor should fit despite it being slightly tight.
So far this job has entailed , cutting and welding on a sports cat , red driling turbo bolt holes , relocation of front lambada sensor , purchasing new sensors/nuts and extension of the centre section.
Sometimes It's just never straight forward lol , really hope this is worth the hassle :nerd:
-
Sounds like a nightmare and a dear one at that mate
-
Yeah these things are sent to try us and this ones doing a pretty good job
