I want to know whats the max power you could run through the agu bottom end?
If putting an k04 on it what other mods will need to be carried out?
Just doing some research.
I know you will need bigger injectors, bigger intercooler (what size?), turbo oil & water lines. What else?
And what gains could be achieved from this?
Im sorry if it has been asked before.
Thanks peeps
P.s will the s3 rods or pistons be a straight fit?

I has 300bhp & 287 lbft through my agu! Still going strong!
If you have a read of my build in the remapping section it's all there!
Mapping a ko4 agu

No point using S3 rods, if you're going to that trouble just fit some H section versions. Don't think S3 rods are any stronger anyway
It's the torque you want to worry about really, 300lb/ft is said to be an approx limit

Wazzer whats the H section versions?
Ok what about the bam pistons? I know they forged but to what limit could you push them to?

What ither parts did you use?
3" downpipe to back box?
Thanks for this guys!!

BAM pistons aren't forged.
H beam is a slightly different conrod design to offset the stress field around the point where the webs join the big and little ends. H beam conrods are more resistant to compression by design compared with counterpart I beam conrods.

What power can they handle? As im sure that the bam pistons are stronger than normal pistons aint they?
Any link to the conrods bud?

All 1.8t handle in the region of 280~300 ft-lb depending upon many things, how smooth the map is etc. Although there are variations in different 1.8t engines the weak point still remains the conrods and even though these vary in manufacturing techniques and specifications they are essentially still the weakest part of the engine and all are prone to failing in that region.
BAM pistons are lower compression than those used in the golf variants i.e. AUM, AUQ, AGU etc. this does not necessarily constitute to being more reliable although it does allow more headroom when running more boost. Having said that, the pistons are not a cause for concern, there are many running in the region of 400+ bhp on standard pistons without issues - albeit in the US.
Did you mean a picture showing the standard conrods? Or did you mean a link to a shop with aftermarket conrods? There are many aftermarket options available, integrated engineering, brute, DM, Scat and THS just to name a few all produce forged conrods for the 1.8t engine.

Spikey torquey maps kill rods.

Im new to this turbo business so going to be spending some time here sneeking about lol more quesions to ask soon.
I appreciate the help guys

many in the UK also running well north of 400bhp on stock pistons.
BAM anything means nothing, BAM parts are no better than any other 1.8T, it's all internet myth that's built up over the years.
AGU pistons are more than good enough for 450bhp, but you do need rods. If you want to take the revs over 7800rpm, you also need a built valve train really.
BAM pistons are 20mm pins and 9:1 CR, AGU pistons are 20mm pins and 9.5:1 CR, AUM pistons are 19mm and 9.5:1.

Limit is anyone's guess, had a few lads break rods around 260-270lb mark on TT and Audi forums, other have not had any problems. At the end of the day its the torque that kills then especially if its delivered harshly. Stock pistons are quite good. The real question is what are you trying to achieve as this will decide on what will need to be done and how much it will cost. Are you uping the RPM limit, after a certain bhp driveshaft issues become a common issue, then there's the valve-train.

Starting to make sense to me now. Thanks guys.
Thinking about an agu convo on my mk3 anni. I know everyone out there has done it, but i need more power (8v) is nippy and revs really quickly but need more power so not throwing more money at it now..
Just an agu with a front mount, ko4, injectors a good remap and see what i can achieve from it really.
