Hi guys looking for some info got myself a very tidy looking five door mk3 but on driving it to work today it was spewing out water something terrible managed to nurse it to a garage where they diagnosed that the problem was a core plug issue anyway can't now get part till Monday will it just be a case of changing for a new one and topping up with fresh coolant or will I have done some more damage any info would be much appriciated :-)

All depends on if the engine actually overheated or not, otherwise whack the new core plug in,refill ,bleed the system and off you go.

Probably limp it round with a duff head gasket for months eitherway

And what sort of garage doesn't have a selection of core plugs at hand

Mate have the new core plug fitted and see how it is,by the sounds of it you may have got away with it,worst that can happen is its overheated .blew the headgasket and warped the head ,if that has happened then it is probably cheaper to replace the engine with a second hand unit as these can be had for between £50-80 and if you can fit it yourself its a cheap repair.
Ps don't be so sensitive

The four cylinder lumps are pretty tough and in this cold weather i doubt you've done any serious damage.

Car all sorted :-) no serious damage . Thanks for all the advice and sarcasm :-)
