Title: Caught by the fuzz!
Post by: Snooze on 08 February 2013, 19:02
So just left work earlier and was just accelerating up to cruising speed on the A road out of the town where i work. When I got pulled by the fuzz  Copper asked me what speed I thought I was doing, I said 70mph. He said try again, I said more than 70mph? He said I must have been doing 80-90mph as they had to do over 100mph to catch up. Of course I couldn't possibly comment! Luckily he let me off with a warning and said watch your speed. Few! Could've have been a bad start to the weekend!

Most folk sit 85 surely? Why isn't speed limit 80? Think how much safer the cars nowadays are and the speed limits still 70??

The speed limit on a single lane A road is 60mph. I generally do 70mph on this road.

Because if the speed limit was 80 everyone would sit at 95.

They seem to be reducing the speed limits everywhere at the moment around where I live.  All nice 60mph roads have been reduced to 50 and 40 and I think its a joke.

The problem comes when they increase the speed limits due to the progression of cars and then idiots buy those cars and stick them into a tree!!

Same round here too.  Road I live on as just been reduced from 50 to 40 limit and it'll take a concerted effort to keep the speed that low.  Mind you several people have wrapped their cars round trees this year (and lost their lives) on this road but that's because they take the sharp bend at 70, in the dark!!

If the limit was 80 most people would cruise at 95 - get it? Whatever the limit most people would exceed it.
The limit should be reduced to 60 on motorways for safety reasons. Most people haven't got a clue how to drive safely on a motorway anyway - they plough on regardless of visibility and road conditions then wonder why they're involved in a pile-up.

In my eyes the speeding motorists are usually (did say usually) looking for speed cameras and the fuzz and a lot more aware of the road and other drivers! I don't mind a car quizzing past if there indicating and showing good judgement BUT I hate people who drive just under speed limit like 65 in the fast lane don't indicate and seem to forget about any mirrors! Or the oldies driving round having a lovely day again no indicating and skipping lanes at round abouts (these people don't react to a toot of the horn). In short I'm basically trying to say yes the speed limits fine and you will get people above the limit but you can be more irritating and straight up dangerous driving the speed limit as you can going fast!

About 3 months ago me and the misses driving into town parked on a three way section we were going right, light go green for straight ahead and stay red for right so oncoming traffic can go.. The misses was driving and sitting waiting for cars to clear or light to change when.. Guy behind sits with his horn on constant and waving at my misses to hurry. She got a fright and pulled abit forward I stopped her got out and had a argument with the guy. He eventually left without even getting out his car, things such as this cause accidents. Frustration in my eyes so if someone can work out less stressful town centre road designs etc that would help more than reducing the speed limit.

I think.

Also think that schools should be a drive past for local access and not free for young guys to cruise past. 20s plenty but the way they accelerate to that, no one walking out from a car would have a chance.

End of rant!

Its not going fast that causes accidents its not knowing when to slow down
