Title: Rust prevention?
Post by: devilscaff on 07 February 2013, 21:53: Iv got a small rust bump on my door sill and want to sort before it gets any bigger, after sanding and removeing any flakes what's a good product to use to stop the rust comming back before painting?

Sanding, wire brushing. or chemically treating the rust is only temporary, so I can't recommend any of them!
Grit blasting, cutting out the rust, and welding in new metal, or panel replacement, are the only surefire ways to successfully eliminate rust.
Your best bet is to grind away the rust, and finish with a thin skim of body filler, followed by etch primer, primer and paint, the more thorough the preparation, the longer it will last

Post by: danny_p on 08 February 2013, 00:14: haveing experimented with the chemical rust removers i can say they are CRAP and massivly overpriced as at the end of the day the part of them that dose the work is just phosphoric acid.

Post by: tshirt2k on 11 February 2013, 14:18: Bilt hambers deox gel is good at removing rust. You have to keep it covered whilst it works to stop it drilling out. After its done it's job, you can treat it with hydrate 80 and paint as normal.
