Think 'Rabbit' is sometimes a name for a VW Golf in U.S.

Would you not prefer to purchase something that hasn't been modified? When most people sell the vehicles they put them back to stock and sell the aftermarket parts on but ETTO.
Anyway the MPG will probably drop by a small amount and usually Stage 2 includes a down pipe so need to double check its not just a Cat back only.
270 bhp seems a little optimistic to me with the mods listed, probably more like c.250!
Wheres the advert?

This one?
It also appears to be running a catch can...how much do you know about the engine?
It's a manual so I would defo check the clutch if you test drive since its been modified.
Have you considered DSG?

Yes, thats the one....... tbh, i know nothing about engines.... the bloke runs a racing yard, so does his son and uncle.... they come from a racing car family. I quizzed the bloke about the engine, he said his wife has driven it, and that he swears it has not been thrashed or tracked !! Mmmmm .....
I cannot find a car for sale near me ( north devon ) .... i am after 5 door, manual OR dsg .....
i suppose because it is quite close, i thought it would be easier to buy that than travel hundreds of miles.....

IMO I think you should search for something less modded.
Join mk5gti.co.uk and read up a little about the engine before you put your hard earned into it.
I don't want to put you off a MK5, but I think you should find one that hasn't been modded as much so that over time you can form your own opinion as to whether you want to upgrade or not.
I'm sure the vehicle is fine but sometimes its best to start from scratch and build up.
I wouldn't dismiss travelling to find the right vehicle but I appreciate you're out of the way in Devon

Cheers poached
I fully expect to travel to get car.....
I was of the same opinion myself about the modded one....... not sure it'd be the perfect family car.
I've driven Gti Mk5 beffore..... love them, my mate has mint 07 plate, borrowed that a few times and now i'm hooked ...... love the fact its a great family car AND nutty boy racer machine ;-)

Why would his missus need a fully sorted Stage 2 GTI? Seems odd and if they are family of racers you know it's gonna be easier to put back to OEM and sell parts on to make the money back. JMO
