Title: Manual or DSG?
Post by: philbic on 07 February 2013, 17:35
Newbie member aspring to a GTi (currently have an MX-5 which I'm selling)

Would appreciate advice over whether to go for a manual box or DSG

I don't like automatics as a general rule but my experience is based on driving slush-boxes 20 years ago (big rovers, jags etc)

any advice welcomed

my target pruchase is a petrol gti mk 5 in the 5-6k range

Welcome.

Yeah, definitely two camps but.........DSG.

Have had GTi's in both manual and DSG (on my second dsg) and for me there's no going back.  I'm not one for taking control away from the driver but DSG gives you best of both -  driver control when you want it but also the option of sticking it into Drive for those dull town runs and especially useful when you have distractions such whingeing kids in the back.   I've never had any issues with my dsg's, though others may have had and I'm sure they'll tell you.  Once you master the art of not losing the paddles going round roundabouts, it's fine.
