Title: Advice please.
Post by: DubaiGTI on 06 February 2013, 12:59
Last week while driving, the GTI lost all power and received an error message - Engine Malfunction.  The car was taken to the VW workshop here in Dubai where it's stayed for the last few days while various tests were carried out.

VW are saying the recirculation wall on the turbo needs to be replaced, which requires taking out the Turbo.  They confirm the car has been modified as follows:

Turbo - via ECU
Diverter Valve.

True. Revo Stage One remap.

Apparently the remap is to blame and they want the car flashed back to original before any work starts.  Including the original diverter valve which I no longer have.  This will be done under warranty IF I return the car as original.

Has anyone else had similar issues following a stage one remap or are they talking rubbish?

Would greatly appreciate some advice folks.

Thanks!

Chunk, had similar issues when it came to warranty work..they were trying to say the fault was because the remap but couldn't prove it so in the end VW coughed up and did the work...I cant remember whether he ended up returning his to stock or not...I'm sure he will be along to clarify things.

If I were you I would ask them to prove it to you before going down the route of returning car to stock...this will no doubt involve some heated conversation...or you could just return it to stock and have a easier life, I guess.

Good Luck!!

Yes as the main man says, ask them to prove that the remap was the cause, although the 'rules' in Dubai may be different to those back here in Blighty.
Usually they aren't able to prove this, but just out of interest have you been iron-footed since the re-map ?
