Stupid a** off a car, ht leads replaced, new spark plugs, rotar and distributor cap, she was fine for a day n drove smooth, day later developed cutting out once again !! so i had it tested for faults and fault code came up for Air Intake, and i bort a maf sensor and changed it, for 2 days it ran ever so smooth with no probz at all. up until yesterday the turning off started again and loss of power, so i pulled the wire off the maf, and it helped a little bit but it has a loss of power. the car is really pi**sing me off, i worry taking it far incase it clonks out on me. HELP PLEASE !!!

Yep above them. There's 2 or 3 white clips and then it all drops down

Hi itteh,have you cleaned the throttle body at all.If you have you may need to get it re-aligned on VAGCOM.

Nooooo the TB was fine, wasnt touched at all, intake has a problem, as fault wont delete, even tho maf has been replaced.

Okay.So i take it you have checked air filter,air intake pipe from filter to throttle body and breather pipes.My breather pipes were pretty gunged up which can cause cutting out.

What do you mean by cutting out? My car currently randomly cuts out while im driving and refuses to start for a few minutes. So just looking to see what it could be that needs fixing.

Hi Migz,i recently started a thread on here as i was having the same issues with my 8v.My problem was car cutting out with flashing oil light.This was caused by knackered Crank Sensor,which i had replaced.Then i had additional issue with cutting out whilst idling,this was because i had cleaned the throttle body out but didn't realise that it had to be re-aligned using the VAGCOM.Had this done and all is well and car runs really strong.
Do you know what engine you have ADY,AGG etc.Does it cut out with flashing oil light.

AGG engine. It cuts out, completely randomly, although more often as i slow down. But has also done it foot to the floor. I cant remember about the oil light, as when the car dies i turn the key off and straight back on, and obviously the oil light comes on just before the car turns over. So if it was flashing i wouldn't have thought anything of it.
Car is at the garage right now getting a new cambelt, but mentioned the car turning off to them when it went in for a service 2 weeks ago and they were adament it was something to do with the distrbutor. So im getting this part fixed as well while its there. But researching about this problem so i know what else to try.
I've found the 45 page long thread about this problem, so if it still cuts out when i get it back going to clean the throttle body, replace the ecu power supply relay, going to replace the ignition switch(needs replacing anyway as noticed sometimes takes about a second after i turn the key to start turning over)
Can you recommend anything else to try thats cheap? Wanna try the cheap things first.

Yeah get a VAGCOM diagnostics run on the engine.There are plenty of guys on here with the right gear and know how,depending on whereabouts you live.There should be someone close to you who would help out for the price of a six pack of beer. :laugh:.Like i said if you get this done first you could save yourself a shed load of money replacing parts that don't need replacing.
Plus if there not VW specialists they won't have much of a clue mate.

Live in Jersey, Channel Islands. Only one person on here whos from jersey and hes gone traveling i think.
I've got one of those VAG scanners that you can buy for about £20 online, would that do the same thing as VAGCOM? I did scan my car with it just after i got it and no errors, but problem started about a week after i scanned, so probably worth another scan.
If its not the same as VAGCOM then will take it to a garage that a friend works at who have VAGCOM.

In a word NOPE.You need it scanned with a proper VAGCOM as the one you have is limited to what it can do.At least with a proper VAGCOM you can delete codes and reset almost everything.Well worth the £260 if you have that sort of spare cash. :sad:

Unluckily i don't have that kind of spare cash :(. Not after the £320 i spent yesterday to get a new cambelt and get this cutting out fixed.
So far it seems like its worked, hasn't died on me, but will see over the weekend if it dies or not.
For anyone else with this problem the part they replaced was something like a "Distributor amplifier" no clue what that is, apparently its part of the distributor that wears and can be replaced for cheaper then replacing the whole thing. Will have a look to see what the name on my invoice is later on.
