Hi all,
I've been experiencing an odd issue recently with my 1.4 1995 MK3. The clutch is very soft and travels to the floor with little resistance. The odd thing about the issue is that it comes and goes. Sometimes its fine and just a little soft, but other times the clutch wont even disengage unless I pump the clutch a few times or press it down and then slide my foot off to flick the pedal up and this gives back some firmness. I'm not sure if its a cable or hydraulic system but the way the issue comes and goes and improves following pumping suggests air in the hydraulic system?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Regards

I checked the brake fluid level and its only a mm or two under max

your 1.4 will have a vable clutch cable and they are rubbish they fail all the time .
when you look in the bonnet its the cable that comes out the firewall and goes to the front of the gear box , they are about £27 on euro car parts and easy to change .
if i remember correctly from continous pumping is a way to reset them hence the noise possibly but sounds like you need a new cable .

I've done a bit more research, is it worth trying to 'reset' the cable myself like this guy did?

You can try to but once they over adjust they never work again , and then you may find you have no clutch cable at all , worth a go but I'd rather spend the £27 your choice
