Hi guys! Recently sold my a4 b6 tdi and now in the market for another diseasel but something much smaller as running the MK2 for 500 miles a week is proving rather costly! I've kinda narrowed my sights down to a Leon FR tdi, a Fabia VRS or a Golf GT TDI. Just wondering if anyone has experiences they would like to share? It would be a huge help!
Cheers
Ewan

vRS drives like a lump hammer - too much weight at the front, although it is only a pain when you're really pushing it.
Leon much more balanced. Trim fell to pieces in my parent's one.
Which leads you back to the Golf TDI.
How much space do you need? There are some sparky little Polo GT TDIs out there too.
-
I'm doing a music degree so often need abit of space for some guitars and the odd drum kit. It will probably end up being the leon or the golf! Im assuming your vote would then be for the Golf?
-
Nah - me I'd get a Passat 4Mo TDI Estate.
-
Im 21, need something cooler than the a4 estate I had before! haha.
-
Even without bias, what DH has said is exactly true. Golf would be your best bet.
-
Golf is the best option or look for an estate for even more room

A3 TDI?

A3 TDI?
Most sensible suggestion you've had this year
-
a cool vag diesel
-
Well the guy's had an Audi before - he's got form for being a c*ck, so why not.
-
Wheeey steady! :P The amount of audi driver prejudice is shocking
Anyone with experience driving all 3 to compare them? Must say the Golf GT TDI or Leon FR TDI are the most tempting!
-
Iv driven all 3. If you are living with it then the Golf has the overall quality that the other two lack. Howver assuming you are looking at MK1 Leons and MK4 Golfs, then the Leon is the keener drive.
A remapped Fabia is an interesting tool mind
-
Was looking at mk5 golf, mk1 leon, the mk2's seem to have held alot of value, hard pressed to find one for less than 5k! The golf will stretch my budget but it is very nice! Having the Leon or Fabia would possibly enable me to keep the mk2 though :D
Yehh a mate of mine has a remapped fabia, they look pretty tidy with a cupra r splitter aswell!
-
MK5 Golf is a big leap on from the MK4 and Leon in terms of driving ability
For me the interior and the fact they are poorly specced lets it down, hence why I bought an Audi
-
Yehh thats the only issue. The difference in interior finish between the tdi and the gt tdi is crazy! Big fan of your A3 mate!

Although you wouldn't be if you saw it in its current state :lipsrsealed:

Whats up with it atm? Think im gonna wait til my student loan comes through to increase my budget, maybe sell the mk2 then see whats on the go! Would love another bike too for summer  Im just too indecisive!!
-
Its covered in over 2000 miles worth of snow, salt and grime and its sat on its poverty spec 16 inch alloys

Whatever's cheapest then.
-
not necessarily, iv got about 5k. So realistically the mk5 might stretch the budget abit too much?

If you want something half decent then yes. You'll be looking at early 140's which are known for their chocolate turbo's.......
Although by now they should have been replaced unless they haven't failed already.......

You're spending borrowed student money on a car?
Sounds idiotic to me. Pick up a banger and don't get into debt would make a lot more sense.
-
The rest of the money is mine and I'm living at home and commuting not spending it on rent. By that logic getting a mortgage and buying a house is also idiotic right?

No as a house will only increase in value; cars depreciate
Renting is wasted money but that's an argument for another topic
-
If I was living at uni though I would be spending 350 a month on renting is the point I was trying to make :D
-
Instead you're living with Mummy and Daddy and not gaining life experience, but swanking about in a car.
Last time I checked that wasn't the point of university, but maybe you're special.
-
Nice one for being the guy to ruin a thread by being an opinionated gimp ;)
-
Ahhh - you ARE special.
We're here for life advice as well as sarcasm, you know.
