OK, so I have slept and calmed down a bit since yesterday and decided to start looking at this in the clear light of day. To start off with, I have decided to start putting together a list of parts I know I will need to get this car as good as it can be. Engine wise, I need to investigate further as I need to start getting into the engine, testing as much as I can, getting a cable to run the VAGCOM software on it to search for codes. Thankfully, I have had a look at GSF as a guideline and I have realised that parts are FAR cheaper than the MR2 Turbo I have rebuilt and tuned so I stand some chance of getting the car right at a price that means it is economically viable. As a clue, I only paid £650 for the car which is a bonus meaning I can spend about £600 comfortably before I would have been better off getting a good one
So, Parts I know I need:
1. Both Front Ball Joints
2. Both front Hubs
3. Driver side rear light cluster (Cracked and containing water)
4. Rear Bumper (Light knock that has cracked the paint)
5. Sensible exhaust (Some swept DTM style thing on there at the moment which is horrendous)
Jobs I need to get done today
1. Check out light wiring to the passenger light front cluster (indicator doesn't work on main beam, main beam not working)
2. Investigate Gear Linkages (Feels incredibly sloppy and 1st/2nd too far over to the left making it hard to select gears)
3. Investigate Engine Bay for any suspected leaks (vac lines, coolant lines and oil lines)
4. Repair cup holder
5. Damned good clean inside and out
6. Get car up in the air and investigate condition of the suspension components on the front (Bushes, ARB, Joints, Top Mounts etc....)
7. Investigate why the outside temp is reading 30degrees C higher than it really is
Need to formulate a plan to get the car as good as it should be

For the lights, check the earths.
For the gear linkage, theres a nut on top of the linkage on top of the gearbox that sometimes comes loose, check its tight, that can cause a sloppy gear change :)
Some of the things your looking for, lights, cup holder, try your local scrappy, much cheaper :)

Thanks for the reply - local scrappy is going to start knowing me by name
Thankfully finding parts I have already found far easier than trying to find parts for my Jap import (the model I have was never sold in the UK)....
I have 3 months before the baby is born to get this one to A1 running status. Going to be a rough ride but I have resigned myself to getting it running and driving perfectly

Atleast now you can tweak things that aren't right for better things
R32 hub setup?
Aftermarket rear lights?
Possablities are endless with a golf ;)

Yep if replacing its a great excuse to upgrade

Try using TPS for parts I have found them far cheaper than VW and GSF with some parts and TPS only sell gen Oem parts too :)
