When should they come on?
Mine seem to come on not very often at all, temp still sits at 90 though :undecided:
-
It's not very warm right now is it...
They will only start to kick in around 95 degrees... and that is stage 1... stage 2 comes on around 100...105 i think...
check temp with ac codes or use vag com to read temp from ecu (as instruments will sit on 90 between 80 to 100 or 105).

I know it's not very warm, but me giving it the beans on a few occasions should be enough to get them to on in my opinion
-
If I can jump in on this post...mine kicks in for no reason...Ill start her up and after a two/three min drive if I switch the car off, the fan kicks in...temp sits at 90 so there is no problem with over heating.. any ideas?

That can be the fan controller under the battery box mate, I know it's not that on mine though as I checked it.
Also check fuse F16

If you've got ac they should be running all the time. Just on the low speed, then when the car temp goes over 95 the fast speed should kick in. However the fan modules aren't that good and the fast speed resistor 9/10 will have burnt out and you will only have the low speed

When you give it the beans there is plenty of (currently fairly cold) air to get that heat away.... think about thermostat... it is not an on/off device but gradually opens more and more the hotter coolant gets...
only way to get them running is alternating your right foot hard between the pedals in thick city traffic this time of year

I have aircon, always off though
I just want to double check it's working more than anything or I'll get the air on rad ripped out and an alloy radiator in

they constantly run with the air con switched on. mine rarely come on, probably heard them on twice and once wAs when a rad pipe burst which fried the head gasket :-/ but no over heating problems with mine though now its fixed! you can test them if your ovey fussed, take the fan switch connector off the rad and bridge between 2 of the pins. i cant remember which one off the top of my head
