Lots of subtle differences like anti roll bar and coolant pipes
I assume you boought the whole car as that means you'll have everything to hand

hi,
ys i bought the whole car but there are a few bits missing, like clutch slave cylinder, rad is mashed, air box missing, thinking all them would be the same as my 2.0 8 v motor, also in the engine bay i have removed the engine loom, ( the one that comes from the ecu to various sensors and coil packs) is this the only one i need along with ECU and clocks, or do i need ignition barrel and key to?
also can i keep my AC and transfer it to my agu turbo motor or is it not possible,
thanks for any help as i do this project,
pete.

If you fit the clocks etc from the donor car then it should in theory just be plug and play. I know we had one or two issues with the immobiliser side of things and had to get the immobiliser removed from the ECU
Dont assume they will all be the same; like i said there were lots of subtle differences which if my mate didnt have the donor car would have cost a small fortune to buy.
Id also recommend replacing any belts and small vacuum pipes before putting the engine back into your car. This means you know everything is in tip top shape

yeah was going to do cam belt kit and clean the oil pickup as i haer there is a common fault with this blocking up before i refited the engine, will just have to see how it goes,
not going to get chance to work on it again untill next weekend now when i have the use of a hoist,
i do have vagcom but have no idea on how to recode the clocks or ECU at the min, will have to loo into it,

don't build what you can buy.

thats all god but i like to build what you cant buy,
built not bought

Does that run ?
The parts that are missing will need to come from the 1.8t, not even sure if the air con will swap over.
-
lol yeah did run before crashed, everything was there before i started stripping it, already removed the smashed front end, rad intercooler, ecu, loom and various other parts,
-
Your 2.0 will probably have the same clutch slave cylinder as the 1.8T.
Just swap everything over. Rack, ARB are the same I think, wouldnt make a difference.
Engine out, put in new car, shafts, exhaust and brakes and wire it in.
-
any idea if there is any modification needed for the engine mounts, i think its just a straight swap over, i have all the 1.8t mounts anyway if need be,
hoping to do some more on it over the weekend, weather being ok, will post some more pix and updated as i go along,
-
does anyone know if i can program my origanal key to operate the new ecu, realy want to keep my one key that fits everything, the donor car has 2 keys one for ignition and one for the doors, :undecided:
-
any views guys?

ok so took the engine out the 2.0 8v today and started stripping out the engine loom for the 1.8 20v t loom to go in, but now av hit a couple of problems, after starting to put the new loom in i noticed there is a few differances, the 3 plugs that plug in under the wiper motor, 3 colours were brown orange and green originally, but the new one is brown orange and white, ( the white one dont fit and has less wires in it) and also the 1.8 loom has a connector plug on the right side under the plastic covering as it enters the engine bay, that now has nowhere to plug into, please can anyone help, i need to get this sorted asap,
thanks in advance if anyone can hep point me in the right direction.

its probably just the angle, but that head doesn't look wide enough for a twin cam / 20v?
-
i see what you mean from the pick but it is, its AGU engine code,
has anyone got any info on the wiring issue?
