Title: Broken by means of scraping
Post by: joshstanvw on 29 January 2013, 20:50
Please help guys I have lowered my golf and broken the bar that runs across the exhaust chamber near rear of the car and its dragging on the floor  so I'm guessing my question is do I need it or can I rip it off

You can take it off as it is only held on by 4 x 17mm nuts.  I removed mine to change the exhaust and simply never fitted it back, but will do as it does protect the exhaust over low speed humps etc.
Your choice ultimately...

I lot of people remove it. But il always leave it after my exhaust desided to split on the motorway. It split but just sat on this bar. Wouldn't like to think how it would of ended if I tok that off

yes, protects your exhaust.... and if it falls off and you won't loose it on the motorway when doing a hundred....

yes, protects your exhaust.... and if it falls off, you won't want it digging in making you crash spectacularly on the motorway when doing a hundred....

how would a exhaust come off

i mean mine only has 2 joins, and even with the clamps removed it took me and ben some real brute force to split

i have a Jetex mounted to a custom Downpipe straight to my turbo No cats

iv removed rear bar front one near where Cat used to be still survives on the car...  but takes a beating

Rust round the boxes.

Obviously standard exhausts fair worse.

I think I will just make a custom thing up on mine to make it a bit flatter.

i have decided to refit somethin but it will not be the original bar as i have done too much damage to it i ave been at work today eyeing up bits of cable tray . . . nice and flat i think itd make a great exhaust catcher lol and i wont end up beating it to death . . . so often
