Can't help but notice the lack of 16v mark 3's for sale these days? theres like 2 or 3 on ebay at a time compared to VR6's and 8v's, does this mean they are getting rarer and therefore more desirable???
Discuss.......

I had to call the AA the other day (flat battery :lipsrsealed:) and when he opened the bonnet he said "woah, you don't see many of these about any more".
-
Yh coz there all being riped apart for mk2s and 1.8t projects. Good news for us 16v owners!!
-
We have scrapped a few valvers
All were dogs
Kept the one alive that supplied the bits I needed for my own conversion tho as the car was just too good to
Break

yep! long live the mk3 16v! (well mine anyway....)

I have started building up a stash of spares!

I think all mk3's are getting rare, GL, 8v, 16v and even Vr's are hard to find compared to the last couple years (I was trying to find a mk3 estate and there were 2 for sale in the uk on autotrader)
where are all the 8v's for very little ££ (I could do with breaking one myself! :lipsrsealed:)
-
Not so much as getting rare but age is catching up with them, more are getting scrapped or being used as donor cars.
A few more years and mk4's will be the same.
-
This is good for when I sell the 16v. It'll be worth more than a bag of cashews.
-
Sooo. What do you guys rekon a good 16v is worth nowadays?

Not much to be honest, they are a long way from being considered a classic.
-
I've been looking for a donor but found more engines for sale than cars.
I keep watching vids of race spec abf's with itb's and the sound is more throaty than a vr6

True they are far from being a classic but prices are higher now than a year or two ago, I guess that follows from the period low low prices and people deciding not to repair them due to cost (rust is still the main killer!)

Same as, the dumb b!tch had the engine off whilst the fans, heated rear screen, radio and side lights were on. Add this to it been - 8degrees.
Anyway when i went to meet the AA man at the car he was loving the fact it was a 16v and turned out to be a bit of a dubber himself.
-
I love my 16v.
My first car was a '96 mk3 1.4- I ragged it to much and killed it
I've then been used to comfort and luxury in two brand new Audi A4 avants
But I plan on keeping this car- it's a daily at the moment, paid for outright but when I'll get another newer car I think I'll just keep this for weekends :)
-
I've got two! Trying to sell one of them at the mo!

Oh yes, there are ABF engines for sale all over the place, but you struggle to find more than a handful of good complete cars on the internet.
Its because 16v owners are looking on the internet, seeing 8v's going for £500 and thinking this isn't worth repairing i'll break it and get a few bob for the ABF, but its clearly reducing numbers at a decent rate cus their are not many left!
or alternatively, people love their 16v's so much they are reluctant to sell???

Yh this is what I'm getting at, bort mine last year for £230. Kinda hoping its worth a bit more now

Yeh I was thinking this myself the other day, makes the ones we have a bit rarer.
I will have a nice example for sale soon, 3dr Black

You said you would sell it to me!!

I wonder if the mk3 will ever be a classic? doesn't seem as iconic as other classics to me..
still they're a very good buy at the moment as a cheap quick little car. mine was 500 with no rust! :)

Message me mate. I've just bought one to use as a donor, paint's quite shabby but the underside and engine bay look real tidy.
-

I don't understand, are you trying to sell it? I definitely don't need a third

we can put it in backwards a make a tug of war.. see which engine wins!

Or cut the car in half, fix it together with removeable locking pins after adding castors by the bottom of the join, and BAM, two ABF-powered reliant robins when you need them :smug:

my mum had 2 reliant robins when I was young, I got ripped to shreds at school for it!

Another 16v died this week, bamfish off here did it., black 3dr rip

I have a 16v 94 was going to break it but decided to get all the work done on it . Got rid of the old cone filter and replaced with a smoothed air box (thanks screech). Just fitted a new sunroof , new central locking pump and door paddles, along with oil pump , filter, oil pressure switches , temp switches, spark plugs , air filter. Most ppl would have broke it with all the work that needs doing but thought i may aswell sort it coz its onky got 89k on the clock and is alpine white with no rust at all.
-
I'm planning on keeping my 16v long term. They are good solid cars and the ABF engine is an absolute hoot. The "Mighty Third" gear in mine always puts a smile on my face!!

If you got room a good body is worth keeping! But that's a bit impractical.
Spare engine and gearbox is a good start.
Most other stuff is still available at reasonable prices

Picked up an 8 and 16v with change from £400, both have tax and ticket March/April respectivly.
Ive sold the valver for £500 and have an 8v to pull some bits off for mine then off to pikey scrap man for £100 and trade in whats left of the tax
If you car is later than L and original it has rust in it as a 100% certainty, that is why there are not many around as MOT failures dont sell for anything other than scrap.
The amount of mint Mk3's Ive poked a finger through in the last few weeks is laughable

You won't on mine, its lived its whole life in a garage.
Though you are right, the one ive just picked up has rust on the sills but the bodywork is clean, its a 1997.
Owner was scrapping because its failed MOT.

Your right but how many garaged Mk3's are there around? As well as you Tweeds got one and that's about it for this forum
If its under 50k and has been in garage you have a chance, if its been driven round on bent jacking points in the wet........
So you are looking for a car that's only done 2k miles a year, been garaged and fully serviced by VW (who don't jack on sills) and never had a puncture with the car slipping off the jack , not to mention any cheap accident repairs or un treated bumps and scrapes.
I have been looking and when I find one its mine
