The only 4wd drive golf is the DSD 4wd twin turbo mk4!...and that really is unattainable!

Can understand a powerful car such as the Golf R having 4 wheel drive for the traction but unless you live in a country where snow is common throughout the winter like central Europe why would you want a car that is heavier less nimble affecting driver enjoyment and uses more fuel and more expensive to purchase
Get winter tiers and you have a golf capable as any car with four wheel drive. Golf’s today even have a system that sends power to other wheels when grip is lost. Unless it’s a really powerful car such as the R I don’t see the point of a Golf 4 motion to be honest.

Having had an Audi Quattro before the GTD I would also look at a 4motion variant.

The grip/drive is very different and yes, it comes with some compromises such as cost, weight and fuel economy but I still miss it.

Perhaps they are not sending the 4motion to the UK becuase they are planning on 4Motion GTD/GTI variants?
 :smug:

(I doubt it though :()

If they make a 4 motion system similar to the e-quattro being developed, then the premium price might be worth it - 310 bhp and 104mpg - me likey...

... but probably a long way off - me sad

Wonder will they fit the new torque vectoring system Audi have into the Golf R.
