As per topic title, series 19 is back on BBC 2 from tonight
-
and started 32 minutes BEFORE you posted this
-
still worth mentioning
-
It was ok Jeremy bit was the best
-
Dragons den bit was genius!

Gotta catch that on I player. What cars were on?
-

same stuff as last year but go 5 mph quicker, god dam car companys are getting boring!!
-
Well I thought it was a bit sh!te tbh
-
It was ok Jeremy bit was the best
WTF? The last section, which appeared to be aimed at morons, torpedoed what had been an interesting and well-presented programme.
If they could keep the format the same for the series that'd be ideal - I'll just watch the first 50 minutes and not watch the buffoon at the end.
-
The star in the reasonable priced car was good in the snow
-
Whole episode was excellent from start to finish. They need to keep the balance between performance cars and comedy, it works.
-
Woeful, and over rated as normal
Thom
-
Liked the Bentley getting abused - rest was just same old same old
-
It was okay. Thing is, I'll watch it just like most other people because it's on.
-

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
-
Going by more negative than positive comments it's broke
Watched this religiously before - now as shady said, it was on cos it's on .
-
It was something to watch, switched off before the end however.
-
Liked the Bentley getting abused - rest was just same old same old
+1 :afro:
Rest was Sh!te....
£800K car on test who gives a feck...
Like we will ever get to see or drive one...
Lets have some proper car's tested...
-
Sounds like I've missed a lot then
-
I really think they need to feature more everyday cars, hot hatches etc.
It is nice to see the super cars as well though.
-
They can only review what's new, there's not enough new hot hatch releases to fill an episode every week. How do you know they won't feature some in a week or two?
Sounds like it's just convenient jumping onto the flaming bandwagon. If it was sh!t you wouldn't watch it, but you are , says a lot. Eastenders is sh!t, I don't watch it, simple.
-
Whoa Nige, put your blouse back on.
-
i love top gear but was disappointed with the show. theyre trying too hard to be funny when they arent comedians. jeremy is usualy funny because hes so blunt not for any other reasons
-
I thought the Dragons Den bit was cringe worthy tbh. Poor attempt at humour. I must admit I was absolutely pissing myself every time Jez screamed when smashing his face on the screen though!
Problem they have is that by going back and testing everyday cars, it just ends up being exactly the same as 5th Gear. Retain the daft humorous bits, and throw in a 5-10 minute test of an every day car. Bit more for the hordes then, yet still retaining individuality. There aren't that many new cars released each year, and considering there are only about eight episodes per series, this would be sufficient.
-
I say keep top gear the way it is, entertainment program rather than genuine car reviews like fifth gear...If I wanted to see reviews of a polo vs a swift I'd watch that, but I want to see comedy, overly expensive supercars I very rarely get to see and random funny vehicles they build and use. TG is the only thing other than F1, BTCC and MotoGP that I watch weekly.
As Bobarley said, if you don't like it don't watch. There's no one holding a gun to your head telling you to watch it.
-
Whoa Nige, put your blouse back on.

-
The India special was an all time low lets be honest......
As long as they stay above that, I'll be happy.
Jezza's P45 was legend though, crank that 2 stroke in the library.....classic.
-
I enjoyed it, even the Star bit which normally I skip (because the chap was interesting and it was good fun in the snow!).
The bit at the end was amusing at first (especially when Jeremy was driving with his nose mushed against the glass!) but went on far too long imo, it became tiresome and I clocked off, should have been a lot shorter segment.

Totally agree!

You lost your blouse then Shady?
Top Gear can do wrong in my eyes!
Much beter than watching Nuns and Midwives!
-
Best program on TV.
Anyone who disagrees, name a better one....
-
Rasta mouse!
Not that many folk up early enuf to see it!

Tonight's episode, good, bad?
I found it pretty boring to be honest. The Viper is a piece of sh!t, they must have CGI'd it's ability to turn. The speedo's all showing 55mph was funny mind you.
-
IMO - Better than anything else on a Sunday night at 8pm....
That don't mean it's good.... Just better than all the other drivel..
As for the Viper - Let put it in perspective...
£340K - £194K vs £75K..... Hummm no wonder it came up short....
The Lexus even at £340K they LOOSE money on every one they make, just like a Veron. So how can you look at it on a like for like basis...
It's just so Bias...
-
Personally out of all 3 I much preferred the Viper.
-
Not that bad an episode but swearing before the watershed I think is going to bring them trouble :undecided:

A presenter of Top Gear causing controversy!?!
-
Kirk you're clearly mental
-
Really boring episode this one... :undecided:
-
I rather like Wheeler Dealers.
Lots of woodwork doing up a Morgan.
-
The first episode made me laugh so hard it was brilliant
-
Only one BBC program beats it in international sales. Top Gear is both educational, inspiring and funny.
So is the program that beats it, Telly Tubbies.
-
Sundays episode I thought was brilliant.
-
Reviews of affordable cars! ...............kind of. :undecided:
-
i think that new cee'd looked nice :embarrassed:
-
i think that new cee'd looked nice :embarrassed:
Looked like an Astra to me plus no cheaper than a Focus and will shed money so little point in buying one tbh.
-
Wouldn't buy one. Jus sayin..

That was my initial thought. Come to resale time Kia's aren't going to worth anything regardless of how well equipped they are.
-
Pretty boring episode.
-
i know its been around for sometime but that parallel parking assist still amazes me, the speed it does it at is insane
-

I drove a Skoda demo car that had auto parallel park back in 2006. So it has just taken till the last few years for it to be an option on the everyday hatchback.
-
If you can't park your own car you should have your licence taken away immediately.
-
A daft statement. The feature is available whether you can park or not.
Same as auto-headlights with auto-dipping full beam. It doesn't matter if the person driving it can or cannot operate their lights correctly.
Cruise control doesn't care whether you can maintain a steady speed or not, but it will do it for you.
These are simply luxury / convenience features.

Its not a daft statement its just another feature to mask poor standards of driving.

Yh but would you rather some one who can't park properly that's about to park next to your car, do it on there own and risk hitting your car, or use the parking feature and do it fine? Jus sayin.
Ps this feature would help my sister out, she can't park for sh!t!
-
I do understand what your saying but driving standards are so low nowadays that giving people another excuse to make no effort is a bad thing in my opinion, there must be better innovations to concentrate on.

I do agree with you. But there's nothing we can do about the shocking driving standards of non car enthusiasts, so driving ades like these help us outa as well as them
-
Matt le Blanc
Bruce Willis
Eric Clapton
Lewis Hamilton
All in one episode.
-
A fleet of wrecked Kias. Good to see they're keeping the budget down.

You honestly think that they paid for any of that? Topgear essentially showed an half hour Kia advert on prime time tv with the added bonus that they then go on to drive one around the track for 2 min in every episode until they release the next one.
-
TG have asked other marques to offer a reasonably priced car and so far it has been
Suzuki, Chevrolet (Daewoo), and Kia
The more popular & well established brands thought better of it.
-
An all time low tonight.... Jesus what a sh!t episode... Fifth gear is in a different league
-

I have to agree with you there. A big advert for range Rover then a boring feature ona crappy beige car. Hopefully next weeks will be better.
-
I thought it was good tonight, that RR was epic and the old person car was very funny.
-
Best episode of the series so far!
-
Although funny, completely patronising to the elderly, and one of the reasons my Dad stopped watching TG years ago... he loved the program, but was offended by the aggressive approach to pensioners. not like they're an easy target or anything is it! expect the backlash in the media tomorrow!
Rest of program was slightly better than its mediocre usual self, but still desperatly needing some change in format, same old sh!te, different day
Thom

I take it tonights episode was a tad subjective then.

Completely ripped the elderly to bits, poor show IMO, If someone talked to, and insulted my parents like that, they would have got marching orders! just poor taste! i was always brought up to respect the elderly, and treat them how you would expect to be treated yourself
Thom

Calm down dear and suck on a werther's

Not before your Horlicks my lovely
-
Complete crap tonight, yet again swearing before the watershed plus we are expected to believe that they just happened to drive the wrong way down a slip road.
-
Knowing Christchurch as well as I do it's amazed me the times they drove down the same roads and spots from different camera angles. So so much editing!
-
yet again swearing before the watershed
Also noted... Not good as my 7 year old daughter like to watch it next day...
I did PMSL at some of the funny stuff... Clarkson with a hammer!
But also think the show has past it's sell by date.

You must have been watching a different program to me then.
Gently taking the pi55 out of the elderly?......swearing before the watershed?........f**k me.........
-
Last weeks episode was a teeny bit better, but this one was also very very good. I was laughing pretty much the entire way through the Rover / Fiat OAP mobile segment. Clarkson has got better and better at comedy timing, faces, and using different tones for comedy effect (e.g. everytime he says "the baby Jeeesus")
It wasn't entirely them aiming at OAPs, but setting themselves up for how hairbrained their ideas were & how skewed their viewpoint is.
If you or family were offended then that is your choice, there is always 5th gear, or reviews of cars online, both of which are of a less entertainment oriented theme & feature things like comparisons of glovebox storage capacity :nerd:
-
Indeed, A lot of people moan about TG, but tune in every week. It's been more about entertainment for years now. I'm sure if the 5 or 6 of you that hate it stop watching, they'll still get by with the few million viewers they probably get every week anyway.
Howeveeeeeer, swearing before the watershed is very naughty. As it's shot in advance, they must have changed the rules or it would have been edited out or beeped.
That contemplation room could have literally been my grand parents house!
-
When did they swear?
From an entertainment point of view o found it hilarious and brilliant. Last weeks was much better car wise and I think possibly a bit more balance I.e another decent car review and maybe shorten the star in a reasonably priced car a bit.
My mum said best episode ever as did my dad. Thoroughly enjoyed the RR test and that 6 wheel drive thing, what a beast! Love that they review other machines too.
The OAP car I gotta show my 83 year old grandad, he'll find it hilarious. Think they're getting there with format slowly. Car review which I thought was good and showed the capabilities of the RR well. Then the star bit for those that like famous people and then comedy throughout.
Like I said maybe another review would be good.
Hammonds acting is appalling though.
-
They said ba5tard.
-
I enjoyed the range rover part, that self driving army vehicle is superb, will save so many lives.
My other halfs dad works for the MOD and spend 6 months in afganistan last year and knows quite a bit about it, although he's not alowed to say anything.
I've driven that range rover and its got to be one of the best cars ive driven.
-
They said ba5tard.
Not technically swearing though is it? It's a child born out of wedlock.
It's hardly the C word... :lipsrsealed:
The show itself is still entertaining imo but some of it could do with a facelift, i don't mind some of the daft stuff they do but some of it is a bit too stupid tbh.
The old dears that went out with them in the car seemed fine to me and lets be honest who's never come across an old fella that should have hung his keys up a few years ago??
-
The history of Dakar rally on bbc4 after was much better.
-
i thought it was ok, nowere near as good as they used to be a few years ago, but ill still watch it, i think the star in the reasonably priced car is getting boring now, only one ive found interesting was the one with the hot scotish singer girl
as said its more entertainment than car program now, but i like it, i would happily watch it if they just did the car chalanges were they get given 1k to spend on a car and then have to do tests.
lets see what the christmas special is like.
and yeah i noticed that they keep slipping in the odd s bomb before the watershed. tutt tutt.
and thom, did your going on about how they "ripped the elderly to bits", did you get so offended when they made a epesode about lorry drivers and ripped them, or when they ripp any other group/steriotype? every joke has someone at the butt of it and im sure that any old person that saw it would have found it funny/amusing and wouldnt have taken offence, or atleast no elderly people i know would have.
-

Could prevent folk getting IED'd, but they need to protect the LIDAR unit on top otherwise it won't be long before insurgents realise, shoot the large fancy thing on top of the truck (that moves at ~30mph max) = free supplies

I'm not easily offended, and the program didn't offend me at all. TG is scraping the barrel, and has been doing for some years now, poking fun at the elderly, and preying on their naivety, and vulnrability is not the way forward in my opinion, it's simply showing that the format of the program is desperate for change
Thom
-
Many of their points were valid.
Modern vehicles are not OAP friendly, especially the infotainment systems.
-
It used to be good. It really is scrapping the barrel.
JC is getting like Chris Moyles. A fat arrogant thingy. Dislike them both now. OH, and who does JMs hair, he needs to have that sorted.
-
Why did they have an IPad on the dash?
-

I like TG and Chris Moyles and to be honest i'd be suprised if there is another series after this one, Clarkson and his mate who is the producer of the show have sold the rights to it so it will carry on in all the other countries that its made.
I do agree that its feeling its age now and although this series is better than the last couple it feels like they are struggling to come up with material now.
-
Why did they have an IPad on the dash?
It was for the map - don't you know!

All the cars they bort look quite tidy, let's see how long that lasts lol

That scooby was epic in the mud!
-
i want a scooby
-
really enjoyed the episodes, will never complain about speed bumps again.
-
That scooby was cheap
-
Impreza wagon seemed to have some torque (and grip!) yanking the other two cars out of the mud
V good episode
