Title: how do you know when the clutch cable is on max adjustment ?
Post by: spudboy6 on 27 January 2013, 16:33
on the clutch cable there is a rubber boot with ripples , when that is quite long with the ripples as such extended , so the whole boot really long , does that mean the cable is fully adjusted stretched and needs replacing ?

had a clutch last year and now pedal is really high (usual i believe on thesse ) but since ive been driving it . it used to have a gentle take up on pull away but now the clutch is sort of on or off , no slippage on the clutch so wondering if the cable has had it .

sorry for a rubbish explination !

cable is a good start (I think it's impossible to tell when there past best and I just replace when I don't like the feel)

another thing that can cause your issue is the clutch arm ratchet in the box side and you may find the clutch pedal drops to the floor at some point and stays there.

start with the cable and see how it feels and if no better go buy a clutch arm ratchet and green cover (otherwise it will most likely take the new cable out when it goes bang!)

Oh right I never even knew they had internal issues aswell ,

I will change the cable this week then , the clutch arm ratchet - I presume can be done without removing the box and are they vw only parts ?

By any chance wound the clutch arm ratchet cause a knock/jolt when changing gear ? I've changed all three engine mounts and when letting the clutch up, I get a knock/jolt like a duff engine mount noise but like I said have replaced them all and can't work out the noise , may be related ?

gsf and ecp sell that arm ratchet and green box end cap (also known as the release bearing cover), give them a bell as I'm sure they don't list them on the websites?
