Hey,
posting this on behalf of my neighbours who are completely clueless with cars.
They have an X reg new beetle, with the 2.0 petrol engine (hence posting in the Mk4 section), but it's an auto.
This morning they couldn't start the car, so I went to help with jump leads. Even with jump leads giving it extra juice it wouldn't start.
When you turn the key the dash warning lights flash on as usual, the stereo worked as did the windows, but you just get a clicking, perhaps from the starter/solenoid?
Due to the snow the car hasn't been moved in 3 or 4 days, but it was fine then. It's got 60k on the clock, but it's obviously getting old now. I didn't get a chance to hear if the fuel pump primed and I don't have VAG com to check diagnostics.
Is it most likely to be the starter?
Thoughts, wisdom?
Cheers

It could be the starter is stuck, try giving it a tap with a hammer while turning the key.
Chances are it is new starter time though, I wouldn't trust it even if you free it off and get the car started.
