What type of mod to the standered airbox

Replace the head with a PB code GTI head, with pennies in the injector holes. Stick a more aggressive cam in it.
Then realise you're wasting your time and go find an ABF.

Don't expect any big hikes in power. My 32/34 dmtl on a 1.8 helped mid and upper revs a bit with cold air feed. Sounded 10 times better and was slightly better on fuel until you floored it..... then it was worse! I found that the setup was very, very delicate. The settings that came with the carb were good but I found that it had to be richened slightly to run smoothly. MOT time meant leaning it off to pass the emmisions too.
