Fitted an 02a gearbox to my 20vt with a clutch actuator and mk1 golf 1.1 clutch cable which is used as the conversion.. Iv tightend up the cable as much as i can and when i go to select 1st it grinds and i cant get it in gear.. Anyone simular with this problem

Can you not select any gear or is it just first??

Cant select any gears just grinds even with out selecting a gear its when i put my foot on the clutch

That sounds like a fault with the actual clutch/pressure plate/thrust bearing, rather than a fault with the cable/actuator mate, sorry :cry:
Was it all brand new on install, did you put a full new clutch kit on?? You did use the flywheel from the car the gearbox came off yes??
A badly installed clutch can cause the friction part of the clutch to shear from the centre, drive part, this causes a crunchy, grinding noise when you press the clutch in

I used the g60 fly wheel and the clutch they use in the conversion its a mega pain in the arse bit iv desided to split the gesr box from the engine and see whats going on aha YAY
