I am looking at getting a MK6 GTD. One followed me today with the Bi-Xenon lights + LEDs. Are the LEDs standard with the Bi-Xenon?

Yes they are

Still learning about the GTD, is that all Bi-Xenons for all years theof MK6? Do you know when the rear LEDs became standards?
-
LED rears became standard mid 2010, the LED "fairy lights" were an update to the option Xenons early 2011 i think.
-
So early xenons didnt have fairy lights then?
-
Nope.

Thanks Jimble - appreciate your help

Just to update, iirc the front LED's on factory fitted Bi-Xenon's came into effect in mid-2010 (any new pre-orders of March-ish 2010).
I ordered mine in April 2010, but was convinced by the wife not to go OTT with options thus no Xenon's (), why did I listen to her !??!!
Got mine with standard fronts but had LED rears.
A neighbour collected his in Sep 2010 and had the LED's on Bi-Xenons, but unbelievably had non-LED rears. I still don't know why this was. I suggested that he ask his dealer but he couldn't be bothered

Thats what I thought initially, but he was always very proud of it and would wash it every week and then park it up in his garage

Revisiting this - I am finding it hard to find a GTD with Bi-Xenons under £17k. What are my options if I got one with Halogens?
1. Retrofit from dealers, but at what cost?
2. Those bright aftermarket lights all the youngsters put in their cars (whatever they are?)

I stupidly didn't spec mine with Xenons and my first thorts was a retrofit but from dealers your looking at 3K+ but it can be done for around £1200-£1500...look in the Maintenance section there is a thread in there with all the info your need...
Or you cud buy copies for around £600 which are plug n play all they require is coding...which is what I did in the end..
Here (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=165998.0) you are I saved you the bother of looking...

Thanks Mr GTD - I will do some research.

It drove me nuts not having xenons too. In the end I bought a car with them fitted.
Having said that I don't think they're any better than the uprated bulbs I put in my last car but they look nicer.
Doubt I'd bother speccing them on a mk7 or whatever next. Some Philips bulbs would do instead.

Seriously?
I never had them on the Golf and thought the light output was shocking. So I upgraded the bulbs to nightbreakers and they were only marginally better.
I specced them on the A1 I bought recently mainly because I wanted the rear LED's and DRLs and can't believe the difference. It is literally like turning night into day. I don't think I could be without them now.
I drive in mainly unlit dual carriageways though so that will make a big difference. I don't think town / city driving would make as much use of the Xenons.
-
Funnily enough I find them more noticeable in town as you can actually see that you've got headlights on under street lights as the xenons pick out details that normal bulbs don't - for instance as I turn into my road I can see how clean the insides of the alloys are on my Ibiza with the xenons on the odd occasion I clean it!!
No, seriously I blast up and down the A30 past Dartmoor and over Bodmin moor all the time and the xenons have a sharper cut off than the Philips Silver Visions which lit the road really well. So if a deer runs out on the bit which is cut off you'd never see it but with the Philips you'd see the beast in the gloom. The xenons on main beam are something else though!! I can see France from my house with the main beam on!!!

Thanks for the info, but out of interest, what are those bulbs that the youngsters put in their cars which make them so bright?

HID conversions (High Intensity Discharge) and are illegal unless used in projector style headlights i think.
-
Strictly speaking they are still illegal to fit into projectors that haven't been designed for them, not to mention washers and auto leveling.
I retro fitted a HID kit to my Passat with projector headlights tho'. They were so much better than the halogen bulbs and had a sharp cut off, but they were nothing compared to the W8 bi-xenons that I have fitted since.
