Title: power steering rack

Im lookin a steering rack, will a standard mk3 one fit? Was quoted £400 for one but im just gonna get one from the scrapyard. My mechanic managed to bodge it for me quite well but i dont know how long it will hold up.

You mean the ones that are on top of the sill covers? They are bout 30 a side from dealers.

Go to classified then cars for breaking then mk3's and ask anyone breaking gti and vr6

Reference the steering rack, I believe a few different makes were used, so you will need to know what you have fitted at the moment.

Right so heres an update. Power steering rack is gone, dealers looking over £900. Dont have a clue which one i have fitted, dealer wont give me a part number.

Anyone recomend one on the internet for me? Its a 1998 golf vr6.

If yours is a 98 then most likely it will be the trw rack. Is stealers wont help you ring tps as they will help you if not then give me a pm with your reg and il find out for you.
There were 2 racks fitted to the mk3 gti and i know they are zf and trw but im not sure if vr is different. Pm me if you still need help :wink:

Mate i found out for you, the rack is a trw and is £647+vat + 185 surcharge if you dont take your old one with you.

That aint the right one for it as its a different make so might not fit. Give mad4vws a pm as he might have one liying around or might be breaking a car

This and it was a cnut to change, did all the other ruber bits while i was there + tracking
