Stolen from Vortex but very interesting, i really hope the adaptive cruise sensor will be less obvious than that?!

That sensor looks sh!te. Hope it's an option? That thread cites the R being out early 2014, I wonder?

Sadly that's how it looks, went to check one out before I ordered. Its not just for the cruise, its for the city safety auto braking collision prevention thingy shizzle too.
Looks as obvious as the gyro on the mk5 concept that could drive itself.

It's standard on everything from SE spec upwards.

Yeah, i could kind of get used to how it looks on the SE/GT but it looks like a cat flap in the grill of that GTI!

Agreed mate, bit gutted really as on the 'concept' pics it doesn't show it.
-
Yeah but that's the problem with concepts, form over function.
-
No fog lights on the GTI or GTD surely they're not going to make that a paid option?

Bet its in the headlight cluster, Audi have started doing this too.
-
I see it as a visual thing though rather than just practical. Shame to lose them.

Not sure on the GTI as it's not out yet but Front fog lights including static cornering function are standard on GT

Fogs in the headlights is as useful as a chocolate teapot. My MK4 had the fogs in the headlights and they were next to useless
-
UK GT Spec Fogs, located in bumper, if added as an option to lesser models it's the same.

And check this GTI out from last September,
Front fogs in bumper but no radar on display............

Is that not just the prototype though whereas the ones from vwvortex are the real deal?
I notice the red on the lights aren't as prominent on the vwvortex ones either.

Mmm, confusing. Something to watch for!
-
Who knows, I would put money on the following though:
MK6 will have fogs as pictured as standard just like you can get now on the GT. The radar will be visible like it is already on standard, lesser models.
-
I still reckon the eyeball will be an option on the GTI just like cruise was on the mk6 GTI (but standard on the mk6 GT).
The GTI should be more focussed on driving not cruising.

Are those black side skirts on the concept gti? looks like they've dropped them looking at this.

The R in the pics doesn't have skirts either and you can guarantee both models will in production form.
In fact that R looks really bland!

They're in this picture which is obviously the same car which is strange. ???

Sure its not just the snow spray playing tricks?

Think you could be right. Not that theres much of a side skirt there anyway, think VW could have gone a little further and made it a little more pronounced for the GTI and R, maybe it'll look better in the flesh?

Yup skirts on both GTI pics. Noticed that GTI and blue motion have wing badges.
Ref bland R I think this is a test mule as it doesnt have a body kit to speak of unlike the GTI shown. If you look closely at the GTI rear spoiler it is deep compared and has black side window surrounds (blue motion too) and the R has just the std rear spoiler and has blue motion rear lights so I am sure that the R in these pics is not in production trim. Other clues are chrome strip on grill, no deep front spoiler, no badges, no black mirror caps and no distinctive rear bumper.

Well said, they'll keep drip feeding us little bits to keep things interesting.
-
If that's how the mk7 gti will look I'm not getting one.
It looks really bland and more like a Kia Cee'd

^This, the mk7 is a lovely place to sit imo and the GTI will only be better, being honest i don't think i've ever looked at a new GTI and instantly fallen for it's looks, i wasn't keen on the mk6 at all from the pictures but the first time i drove one i new i wanted it and now i still smile when i walk back to it in the supermarket car park, i often think it's the nicest car there! I'm biased obviously.

Maybe this is your first VW I don’t know but what you should do is go and have a test drive the Creed down a B road. Then go and test a normal mark 7 Golf down the same B road. The engineering in the Golf is way advanced over the Creed and that’s where driver enjoyment comes in.
Pictures don’t do the mark 7 justice. You need to park a mark 6 next to a mark 7 before you really see the difference. The basic design in the mark 7 is there of the Golf but it is different when parked side by side , sleeker and much more modern looking. The mark six side by side looks thrumpy and older looking. Focus has went the same way as has the BMW 1 not hugely different from the previous model. The next GTI will be an absolute cracker put your money on it

Agree with the comments by Edi35
The other thing is that those pictures are quite heavily processed and this is affecting the 'real' look of the car. The standard Mk7 does have that sleek / modern look about it and if they get it right on the GTI, I think we're in for a treat. I for one can't wait until the official R pics are released...
IMHO there is no substitute for seeing the car in the flesh - a picture can be very deceptive.

Jimble, IDC and Buck +1
I went to the MK7 launch last night at my local dealer and I was very impressed with the MK7 especially the interior which is a real improvement over the MK6. I was unsure of the looks of the front end from the pictures I had seen but in the flesh it looks good in SE and GT spec. I am much more excited about the GTI now.
I have an all day test drive in a GT TSI tomorrow so weather dependent I shall be able to give it a good test.
-
I've Got a mk6 gti and i went and had a look at the mk7 2 weeks ago. The interior was ok but I felt the radio screen was smaller ? Anyone else think this.
-
The standard radio screen might be slightly smaller but it does have nav, plus the option unit has a full 8 inches!!

Let's be honest here, we can all admit that VW has played way too safe on styling but others that go down the radical route never seem to get the driving bit right.
Most manufacturers try and entice you with cracking design, but what you end up with is an interesting LOOKING car that's not nice to live with. Also, VW seem to be making sure they don't ever do this, you see a golf, any MK and you know it's a golf, you know it's going to be good, and you know that compared to it's rivals, attention to detail is, and has always been where it matters.

Nice way to spend a Saturday. Give us the low down on your thoughts of the test drive.
Have a great day:)

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but from the side does anyone else think the MK7 looks more like an evolution of the MK4 than MK5 or 6, or you could say it's a step back to the MK4 design. Almost like they've squashed and stretched it a little? Could be just me tho
