Title: Vw oil
Post by: navmk4gti on 20 January 2013, 16:29
Im going to change oil in my 4mo. Not sure what to use tho. Have checked few sites. Some list 5-30 some list 10-40. Looking to get vw oil and can see there is 10-40- 5-40 and 5-30.

Anyone know what should go in a 4mo. I think it has 10-40 in there at the mo and is noisy on start up. Was thinking trying 5-30 but dont want to fook it up with wrong oil  :undecided:

If its noisy with 10w40 you don't want to go thinner with a 5w30.

No noise is tappety. If that makes sense.    When warm its fine. Was same on my old gti
Changed oil then was ok on cold mornings. Just assumed same with this. I know they can be chatty when starting from cold. Especially in this minus weather

Noisy when cold could the timing chain, 5/40 would be the best bet.

Looked vw handbook. Recomended is vw 500 and 502 oil. So got myself some 5-40w quantam oil for vwspares and 1 litre top up. £31 all in
