Ok, i put my FK highsports on my MK6 GTI this weekend, They are wound all the way down, and have taken out the spacer at the top that holds the spring onto the top mount, but im just not happy with them, it isnt hardly even low in my eyes?? i run these coilys on my mk5 golf, they still have an inch to go down on the mk5 and the thing literally cant go any lower?
i think i am going to be having to rip the helpers out too!
Anyone running coilovers?
What you running?
How low are you?
Photos would be helpfull??
cheers steve x

Don't think you will get much advice on here regarding the slammed look, maybe better on edition38 for more advice on that one bud,
I wouldn't advise taking the helper spring out, that's there to keep tension on the springs isn't it ?
Ie if you go over a brow of an hill for instance and the springs can come out of there cups ?

You are missing the point Neil...such 'slammed' cars with masses of 'poke', 'tuck', 'stretch' and other such utterly pointless a potentially dangerous scene-queen crap, are never driven fast enough for the springs to come out over a brow of a hill, for fear of the sump being ripped off upon landing.
-
I like to drive my GTI and get down my road so it's bilstein b16 ps10s not on the lowest setting, more A38 than Edition 38

No air ride?
Or cheap coilies on the lowest setting?
Tut tut...
Or rather, bravo!
-
I know and the nice chaps at KPM even set it up to how I wanted the car to drive it terms of turn in
I have not posted any pics as it wont't be low enough lol

Steve
Neil did give you some advice but as always on here we have bucket fulls of whit, banter and sarcasm - it's the law!

Please don't take it personally - it wasn't meant to be personal!
The Mk5/Mk6 Golf GTI is such a good car to drive standard that VW got it pretty right.
It can be improved - most of us have improved our cars in some way.
But dumping it in the weeds on coilovers will ruin a perfectly good car and risk the sump...neither I see at particularly sensible!
It's your car...but you can expect a healthy dose of being laughed at if it all goes a bit Pete Tong.

Can Totally Take A bit of a laugh im all for a laugh, just seemed a wee little bit too much that was all haha!
Wont Touch the sump, as the sump is sat so high up, only thing you can scrape is subframe, as i found out in the mk5 :)

Oh well that's alright then...because subframes are meant to be scraped, aren't they?
-
a few piccies from my rocco
Exhibit A - Spare subframe with VWR mount and scrapes, kept it as found out they are over £250 from a dealer
(http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/oo261/wigit71/tfotfn/IMG_2160.jpg)
Exhibit B - Some nice damage to the sump due to rogue oil

In reality on the roc the car caught on the front jacking points and didn't look that low

Fiishbmx, no need be annoyed with me  , but I have to comment by saying I've never understood why anyone wants to chop around an already excellent car by adding pointless mods [imo of course] It won't look better [again imo] and won't drive as well [probably a fact] It seems to me that a lot of people mod their cars just because they can and not because it makes the car better in any way. I'm taking into account that you are obviously a lot younger than me and as such will have a different idea of what looks and/or is good btw.

Haha, Na i totally understand man, and yes it is all each to your own opinion n all that, personally i just love the look of a real low car, im a show whore to haha!
and half the reason is also that soo many people have said "you cant make a mk6 really low being static you need bags'
so there for i will prove them wrong! haha
-
What about these ? Are these not low enough for ya

That GTI looks tragic.
If that's what people are doing to Mk6 GTIs, its time to buy something else :embarrassed:

Agreed. That is simply shocking

Quote. so many people have said "you cant make a mk6 really low being static you need bags'

I am running coillies but hate the slammed look, I fitted them to use them properly ie get the proper set up for track use,
I only posted my reply to say that there is a set up for the scene queens without using bags,

If your wanting to go that low I'd put the top plate back on then ditch the helpers and you could ditch the one of the lock rings if your winding all the way down,
You may be laying down at this point then your on to chassis notching
H&R do a shortened tube coilover that's meant for mega lows
Hope that helped
Everyone that laughs and mocks someone for wanting deck there car and branding them scene queens it's all a matter of taste!

Matter of taste?
If it involves notching the chassis leg, I'd say it was a matter of safety...and in my view, I'd take them off the road and crush them...along with any cars with stupid sticking out wheels, tyres that scrub or excessive camber purely to make stupid wheels fit properly.
Lower it by all means...but keep it legal and safe.
Idiots who take liberties have no place sharing the roads with those who drive legal cars.
-
Again that's your opinion and taste!
As long as you know what your doing and do it correctly
there's nothing with notching a chassis to create driveshaft clearance
Legal and Safe!
Now I've not went to this extent on my car,
However I do have respect for the quality of workmanship
I'm some of the show cars being produced.
What's your view on Air?

'Designed' even for ultra lows.
-
What's your view on Air?
I followed a B6 Passat on air out of Santa Pod Spring Fest a couple of years back in my standard Mk2. He'd raised his up to a driveable height when he got to the road, but I've never seen anything like it. Even at 40mph the thing was wallowing all over the place. It looked totally undriveable.
Air is supposed to give the best of both worlds, sat on the cills at a show, and enough ground clearance to not hit cats eyes on the road, but having seen it in action, it goes to show that there is way too much compromise whichever way you decide to go low.
I also think that whilst low can look good on a show ground next to other like cars, but for the other 95% of the time when it's being a car out on the road, it looks broken.
-
^^^ Not all air ride kits are the same
-
Ok here is my MKVI on Bilstein B16 PSS10's probably not low enough for the ED38arazzi but I want to get over the six speed bumps on my road and be able to go around a racetrack and not beach it on the rumble strips. It was fully geo'd after having this lot fitted.

Pic of the car once settled....it still has around 20mm left on the threads front and rear to go lower, but I'm as low as I can be to get off my road!

Took My helpers out lastnight, still got about another inch the front can go down!
But untill i get my 3sdms on this is the ride hight untill end of feb, pretty happy with at the moment for now :)

No offence mate, but why on earth do you need to have your car so low? Cars aren't designed to be run on such low suspension. Yes my first car was decked, but I was forever replacing suspension parts and bottoming it out on speed bumps etc. I eventually raised it 25mm after my garage warned me my drive shafts were about to pop! Needless to say I learnt my lesson and decked cars are not worth the hastle. There's no need to lower a car more than at the most 50mm. It will look good and still retain its use ability. Personally I think the Gti is perfect in stock form. Next to no body roll, good grip, handles well and looks good.
Also what wheels are they? They don't look like Monzas shadows. They look a bit naff really!

Since we are on a public forum where everyone is entitled to an opinion...that looks sh!t.
Front number plate removed and bumper smoothed too?
It all adds up.
Oh...are you going to tell me that sitting it on the dash is just as visible?

HAHA, each to yours own n all that pal.
They are monza shadows as they came on the car.... they are filthy dirty in the photo and to be fair im really not botherd about the wheels one bit as they are to get me through winter n thats all, thanks for ya negative input though dude!

oh it gets even better, jesus christ, and people say that ED38 is the most b!tchiest forum? oh how they are wrong, thanks for you input about the car dude really taken on bored :) haha "haters gunna hate'
As for the number plate, normally it is placed it the window proply, and when it is, ive had traffic police say it is ok and fully viable where it is, and 2 MOT testers all so its fine where it is i would say thats more than enough to say its visable :) cheers

You are welcome
You chose to put pictures up...you have to take all responses.
No wonder the Scene Queen comments got to you...are you sure Ed38 isn't more suited to your tastes?
This really is the trigger point for me...once the Mk6 GTI starts getting Chav'd up...it's time to flog it on.

Chav'd up? buddy I'm one of the must anti chav people there ever is? I'm called a chav because i want my car really low on a set of wheels and a smooth look??
last time i checked the "chav" look was kid who try to zoom around in there little 1.2's with boom boxes and neons, i totally understand the whole opinion stuff but your just being silly about it and being rude...
nothing nice to say, then don't say it, gets people alot further in life instead of slating people all the time.
everyone has their own preferences to how a car looks good, you don't think mine looks good, i probably wouldn't think yours is too great.
thats life though...

Jeez...you are touchy.
You were touchy from the first post...maybe posting on a public forum isn't for you?
You'll not get people massaging your ego on here...so man up and take it on the chin.

It's my opinion...and as far as I recall, I was still legally entitled to it.
Dumped in the weeds and smoothed = Chavvy in my book.
Maybe not yours...but I never said it was.
nothing nice to say, then don't say it, gets people alot further in life instead of slating people all the time.
Er...once again...is this a public forum?
Did you post pictures looking for comments?
Maybe you should have stipulated "positive comments only please"...but you didn't.
I think it looks too low and awful because of it.
everyone has their own preferences to how a car looks good, you don't think mine looks good, i probably wouldn't think yours is too great.
thats life though...
The difference is, I don't care if you like mine or not.
And I certainly wouldn't argue the toss, suggesting you were wrong with your opinion.
Seriously...please don't put your car up on a public web board then get upset if not everyone likes it.
Life is too short.
-
I don't hate it, just trying to lend some advice from my experience. Trust me you will be wasting a lot of money maintaining a car that low. You clearly have more money than sense! Lmao at previous comment, hee her!
-
I'm failing on the ride height
Trouble with the plate mod is or the 5% of the year people think its cool without at editiondcoers type shows and the car looks f00king sh!te with it in he window or tied to the sun visor rather than doing the magnetic or suction cup mod
I'm getting old it's official
-
I'm failing on the ride height
Not to my eyes...and I bet it drives well?
I'm getting old it's official
Same here, evidently.
-
Wigit
Is that ride height stock?
Looks really good to me...I think mine sits a little higher than that?
-
It's lowered on b16s just not slammed
-
Looks good on them. Nice happy medium
