Hi guys.
My car literally has to be still for me to be able to change to first gear... Second gear is only possible in low speeds. E.g. when I'm coming out of a roundabout, it'd much rather go to third, which is a bit annoying, cause releasing the gear will set you off with around 900 rpm, unless you go down hard on the speeder when releasing.
So does my gearbox have sychros on these gears, or are they "broken"?
Thanks

Sounds broken mate all your gears apart from revervse have synchros unless you've got a landrover 2a box in your golf

I would have thought gear linkages need aligning

So what do I need to do exactly? Change the entire gearbox?

Drain the gearbox oil into a clean bucket, then check it for any metal fileingss or metalic pieces that would be my first step. Then re fill with clean oil. Worth a shot.
