Hi all
I am desperately after a second hand standard exhaust for my VR6, however they seem to be pretty sparse! Can anyone advise if the GTI exhaust will fit?
It is a 1995 VR6.
Thanks
David

The 16v midbox and backbox will fit, but the 8v won't unless you get the midpipe with it too. The 8v pipes are 5mm smaller in diameter though.

Thanks for the response.
Basically, i have a downpipe, but from there i need it all, CAT and the rest? Could i get a whole 16v setup to do the job? Or if i use a VR6 CAT, could i then use the 16v stuff after that?
Thanks

The cat is the same for the 8v, 16v and VR6 so yes, any full system from any of these models will fit as long as you don't mix bits of 8v midpipe/midbox/backbox with 16v/VR6 midpipe/midbox/backbox.

the cats are different.

yup, cats are different. if i remember correctly 8v is a ceramic one, 16v and vr are metal carriers...
-
Oh really? My bad! Are they the same size though?
-
Same size pipe but the element size is different.
Do you think a 1.4 cat would need to be same size as a 2.0?
So then its the same for the 2.0 and the 2.8 I think you would struggle with emissions if you put a 2.0 cat on a vr6
-
Yeah that makes sense, I hadn't thought of that!

So the cat aside, does a gti cat back system fit the vr6?
-
gti 16v yes. not 8v

Yep 16v and vr6 are the same and the exhaust should be listed to fit both. They are both 55mm. The 8v is 50mm but has a reducer pipe after the cat. So you can fit a 16v/vr6 exhaust to a 8v

Thanks for the advice guys, just need to find a cheap second hand one now if anyone knows of one going...
-
I have a cheap one going.
It's the centre pipe and performance mid box which I also cobbled together with a 16v back box. I had to change it though as the wide didn't like the droning from the mid box.. Collect from Pinner if you want. £30. Have a look in the classified section as posted last night
pm me and I'll send you a larger photo.

An 8v exhaust does fit, people like bosal sell a connector piece to fit either 8v bore or 16v/vr bore exhaust from the cat back
(it's straight through connector on the 16v but is stepped down 5mm on the 8v)

Why would you put a 50mm exhaust on car that is meant to be 55mm?
A mk3 diesel exhaust will fit a vr6 but its a backwards step

Bens donor VR6 had ceramic innards to the cat
