Title: golf gti mk2 8v 1991 won't start
Post by: slee on 19 January 2013, 13:22
My golf gti mk2 8v 1991 won't start start motor just clicks and does not try to start the engine

I have tried putting it in gear to rock it , charging car battery up over night.
Battery was reading 12.9v before starting and 11.8 when trying to start the car

Every time i try to start the car the starter motor just clicks , it did start about a week ago (starter motor was reconditioned last year)

Any help or advice would be appreciated

3 things spring to mind.

The starter, tap it lightly with a hammer whilst someone tries to start it, then beat it hard with a big hammer, if it doesnt work the starter was probably ok before you beat it with the big hammer.

Second the battery, for the sake of 5 minutes swop another one into it or get a running car with some jump leads onto it.

third thing and its got a good chance if its not the other 2, check the cables to the starter and the Engine bay earth cables, a bad connection will cause enough volt drop to stop it starting
