ive got a agu 1.8t golf and the other day it strugled to start every since its been a pain in the rear to start once running its ok but the throttle it a but unresponsive

no havnt got a code scanner and cant find anyone local to do it for beer tokens

then the next thing is a hand held code scanner from ebay for about £20, will definatley repay you in a few uses

I plan on getting Vag-Com in the not too distant future, but for now this is what I use and it works fine:

Dead easy to use, it'll give you any fault codes it finds (not 100% sure how reliable it is and whether it finds everything but it's better than nothing) and you can then search for these online to get a description (the manual only lists a handful of common codes) and possible actions to sort it. Once sorted/noted down, you can clear the codes from the car. This particular one apparently comes with a CD with all the fault codes listed on it, but I just use this to search for the codes as the explanations are decent - also search the forum here as there's likely already posts and solutions to anything you come across:
