Come on with rear window switch and should take couple of mins to clear/defrost.

This,  they're not paticularly great though just like the heated washer jets.

Are these standard on any type of model? I'm not sure if my 16v has them installed, are they easy fitted/plug for them already wired up?

16v should have it as standard, all models, certainly GL and upwards had it as standard.

you could convert it so it heats up with ignition.... (needs a small circuit with an NTC and a transistor so they only come on when it's cold), then you dont have to turn on rear heating which can burn out if you leave it on with no ice or fog on back
