Rim style are quoting 225/35 tyres for 19" bbs ck. is there any reason they would do this rather than the 235/35 that come on the factory 19's? I'm wondering if its just to make themselves appear cheaper and to the unaware they would do?
-
no issue running 225s on 8" rims if you ask me, the 235s on the rocco 18s seriously limited tyre choice
-
Cheers Wigit, I have noticed that it broadens the choose massively! I can get the wheels I want with some decent tyres. I guess with my spacers it'll look the same? Might just have to get some 5mm for the front.
-
get the offset right on the alloys you won't need spacers, and with a drop tyres should tuck under nicely
-
Wife's Ed35 has 225/35x19 on her factory fitted 19s. My R has 235/35x19 on my factory fitted 19s . It all depends on the width of the wheel, R wheels are wider. I personally would have 235s on 19" CKs because of the extra rim protection of the wider tyre, but either would be okay. IMHO CKs will be okay without spacers as they are ET44, I believe.

Thanks chaps.

8" OEM offset is ET50 and 235's fit perfectly on 19's at that

Get the right offset wheel, don't fit 5mm spacers on the front, I have tried them and always cause wheel wobble!! 10mm spacers are ok as they are hub centric 5mm arn't,
Get the correct offset and no need for spacers unless you have bigger calipers ?

Nice one thanks for all of ya feedback.

The reason they prob quote 225 is to keep the car legal, as if it does not have the silly fugly plastic spats on the arches the R has then technicaly it should fail a vosa or mot as the amount of tyre sticking out the arches is too much.
-
The CKs come in a 44mm offset and sit just right visually in the arches but will catch on a mk5 on the front without the wheel arch tuck mod. They do just about get away without catching on the mk6 wearing 235 tyres.
There's a thread on here somewhere of what happened to mine on almost the first trip out wearing 225s on my CKs, needless to say the 225s were immediately sold and 235s put on!! I bought a set of Conti 3s off a guy on a forum who had R Tallawhatnots and had lowered his mk5 immediately getting rubbing issues (he had an R32 but had bought a brand new set of R alloys for it from a guy who had an R and had 'upgraded' to something else).
Now, I had a set of Conti 3s on my old 18" BBS wheels on my mk5 which had massive rim protectors but the ones off the OEM alloys had much smaller rim protectors which leads me to conclude that the OEM tyres are a cheaper version of tyre.
Anyway, to cut through my rambling the 235s sit marginally squarer but have a good look at the actual physical tyre before you buy as my 225 tyre dealer bought Conti 3 would have protected the rim better than my OEM VW factory 235.
Does any of that make sense? No idea as I'm typing this off the phone and can't re read it properly having come off an11 hour night shift with virtually no sleep!!

And that's how it looks with ET44 8x19 CKs on 235 rubber

Exonian your car looks sick. First photo is the best. What colour grey is your car? Thinking I'm most definitely gonna get the same colour for my next Gti. Only 3 1/2 years to wait!

Steel grey ftw! :lipsrsealed:

Steel Grey.
I had a mk5 in Steel Grey and loved it.
I had a mk6 in silver and was 'ok' with it.
I have this mk6 in Steel Grey and love it.
If I had a choice of colour for my next car it would be... ?

I'm waiting to see what the new Mk7 colours look like - hoping there is something there that appeals (other than black) I fancy a dark grey for my next one

I said I'd never buy a black car again after the first black car i owned in 2007 (my second 106 gti). But my local Ridgeway VW garage had a special VIP weekend last Sept and had my car for sale with just shy of £2k off! Needless to say I bought it.
It looks great when it's clean, but does not often stay clean for very long!

There have been a couple of black cars calling out to me in the last few days but it's ain't gonna happen!!
