Title: Top end rebuild

Anyone got a rough idea on the cost of a topend rebuild on an 16v abf?

New head gasket, cam followers, valve guides & seals, reground valves, skimmed head plus other gaskets/seals on a 16v plus you should do the the cam belt & chain & tensioner as they are off. Easily a Grand plus for a proper job. If tight on cash, could reuse the cam followers if they are OK and reuse the cam belt & tensioner if recent, but I would still replace the chain as the cams are out, but over all it would not save you a lot.

I was considering this option myself actually.

I was just thinking worse case scenario. But basically im getting tapping from the topend . Ive changed the sensors and oil light is fine and replaced oil and filter engine flush and slick50 .ive also changed oil pump along with a new sump gasket and sump plug. The tapping only really starts as its warming up. Its not burning any oil so im hoping its just the lifters.

If the engine is healthy then change the tappets mate. No point getting a topend build its just uneconomical
