From the normal driving distance it 'not bad' but up close its obvious ! I maybe being abit picky but near enough £60 youd expect it to be as good as oem material il get some more pictures when my gauge arrives tomorrow.... Il proberly retrim it if it still bugs me in a few weeks!

No more a distraction then it in the centre console or in the air vent holder they sell anyway....

In the pillar looks a bit too fast and furious for me these days....must be getting old

Thats one thing ive been thinking of doing. But wasnt sure what guage fita best. how did yours fit? make?model?any links?

also what did you do with switch. was thinking of maybe building a small insert for the door pocket and running the wires down the inside of the door and into the pocket were the switch would sit but wasnt sure.

Its actually very subtle to be honest (other than the material) it looks factory fitted ! You probley loose about 2cm of vision in the very corner other than that you hardly notice it ! It is one of them products that cost pennies to make though theres no way it cost more than £5 to make so thats a pretty good profit on it !

Mate its so easy, just take the light switch out, fit boost gauge. Mine isnt a perfect fit so I wrapped a bit of black carpet left over from when we did my mates floor inside it to get it nice and snug. Take off the underside dash plastic, get a circle drill bit, cut and fit. Job done!

So the boost gauge finally arrived today so naturally i fitted it in the pouring rain .....

Im still learning about turbo engines so bare with me !!

On idle its at -10
With foot to the floor its at 8psi which is correct as far as ive been reading
If say doing 65/70 and i let off the throttle and just coast it drops back down to -10ish
And driving SENSIBLEY so not going above 2.5k it doesnt go above 0 ?!

Does all that seem as it should ?

I'm assuming the -10 reading is psi not in hg?
Title: Re: 42 draft designs pillar pod gauge has arrived few questions...
Post by: AD1.8T on 12 January 2013, 17:37
I dont know what hg is but the gauge is psi ...
Title: Re: 42 draft designs pillar pod gauge has arrived few questions...
Post by: Wazzzer on 12 January 2013, 17:42
in hg - inches of mercury, usually what boost gauges read below 0 but not all

-10psi is around -20in hg which is about right but maybe just a tiny bit low. I'd have a good look round all the pipes to make sure everything is secure. Also was that reading on a warm engine?

Funky :), i want 1 lol, wrd you get your gauge m8

Post by: AD1.8T on 12 January 2013, 18:54
-9 was first start then crept up to -10 then when fully up to temp it went to -11 if theres a minor leak i would put money on it that its the IC to Pancake coupler as i struggle to get it on all them months ago !

The gauge is from egay mate put in digital boost gauge it should pop up 1s from hk the others from here which is abit more costly but i didnt want to wait 20 odd days so i paid the extra £3

Post by: Wazzzer on 12 January 2013, 20:31
unless you make an effort to make the revs climb (ie plant your foot or go up a hill) you won't see much boost on the gauge under normal driving

-11psi is about right mate. It will be lower when you first start it due to the auto choke messing with the revs

There should be a wire to connect up so the display dims when the lights come on...

My gauge comes on with the ignition but still has another wire to dim the backlight down when I put the lights on
